If the government is regulating econmic goods such as weapons then you're right on track.

If i want to dig a hole in my back yard I would rather use a shovel, but if i can't i'll use my bare fucking hands.

Counter-strike = rated MATURE. if you are under 17, never mind the knife thing, you shouldn't be playing this game.

You people should recognize that if they feel that they are mature enough to play a game about killing people for fun then they are mature enough to own a knife or a star.

and anyway does anyone here even know how to throw these stars without cutting themselves. look at the pictures!! its like sharp edges all around

          1) Weapons are lethal instruments designed solely to maim and kill. They are not toys and should not be distributed with such blithe, reckless abandon.
I'm sorry, but nobody runs around with ninja stars trying to go on killing rampages. That's the fucking stupidist idea I've heard lately. I throw knives as a hobby, and usually carry my mid-sized throwing knife in my backpack in case I end up somewhere that'd be a good range to throw at. It's fun trying to work on your aim and technique and control so you sometimes get the thing to actually stick, instead of clanging and bouncing off to the side.

Oh no! A throwing knife! That's a weapon meant to kill people! Aaauuugh! No.

It can be categorized as a weapon, but I use it for personal enjoyment. Much like I enjoy archery, though you could certainly put plenty of people out of their misery with arrows. But with both of these hobbies (along with hunting) I have never been tempted to use them against people.

Some of us develop skills for the sake of enjoyment. Kind of like how we develop the skill of aiming for the head in CS. We try to refine our skills because we enjoy them, not because we're crazed killers.

I am not saying that owning a lethal weapon CAUSES someone to be violent. I am saying that their free and easy distribution sends out the message that these items are okay and acceptable in society. They should not be.
These items. Pocket knives, lighers, and some throwing stars. We already went over the point that throwing stars are things you practice a skill with, not a practical killing weapon. So now we're left with pocket knives and lighters. These shouldn't be acceptable in society?!?

Damn you are ignorant! I carry a pocket knife and a lighter, and use them for whatever I need them for. If I'm opening a package, I can flip out my knife and cut it open nicely instead of tearing it to shreds. Oh me oh my! Lighters are also evil things now? Somebody never goes camping, apparently.

If you think these shouldn't be acceptable objects in society, take it up with the government. As for most of us, we support the freedom to own fun and/or useful items, regardless of whether you're afraid of anything with a sharp edge.
On the other hand a military-style combat knife or a throwing star only have one purpose - to inflict damage on another human being.
Military-style combat knives? Do you even fucking look at the links before you comment on them? These are fold-up pocket knives with sissy 3" blades, not freaking 10" Ka-Bar's or anything!
What we do not want to do is make weapons out to be harmless collectors items or playthings.
Throwing stars are harmless collector's items. They're not practical weapons. Lighters and pocket knives are useful tools. Double-bladed pocket knives are flashy, but ultimately they really don't make good weapons either.

You know what does make a good weapon? Guns. Guess what? We glorify guns on this site. We play a game that glorifies killing people with guns, with the only consequences of our actions being "time-out" for a few minutes at most. Funny, though, I don't have an urge to take my hunting rifle and go out shooting people in real life, despite how glorified that gun might be.

Do us all a favor, and think for long enough to get past your "oh no, bad things!" reaction, and engage your brain. If you can't get to that point, just don't bother posting here. Complain, instead, on the "Mothers Against Video Games" forums or whatever group you can find that actually wants to hear about your moronic fears.

Sorry nighthawk but if you carry around a knife, I'd feel a little bit threatened by you - but maybe cos I live in Britain, where it's against the law to carry any form of weapon, even a knife like that. Or maybe it's cos I'm weak, as Rizzuh has so kindly pointed out.

Roflmao - Rizzuh, your slag-me-off has gone a bit broken it seems - oops! If you email me I'll tell you the bug in your code (I can guess it already tehehe), and at the same time we can apologise to each other eh. But I wont apologise until you make the first move - YOU Email me!

For the the Good people out there, I feel I shouldn't post new comments until you remove the insultness!

Your views aren't going to persuade Rizzuh into removing the contest and frankly, no one gives a rats ass what you say. Go team up with Martin Sheen and Janeane Garofalo, maybe then...your worthless banter might be heard....

BTW Renegade, I'm not trying to attack you personally, though I'll assume it most likely comes across like that. However, the points you're trying to make simply don't make any sense to me, and seem rather contradictory.

As far as getting yourself banned from the comments, is it really surprising? Does Office Depot let you hang banners in their store which rant about how sucky the store is? You can hang your banner on your own front lawn, that's freedom of speech. But freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to hang your banner on someone elses yard. Quite frankly, this is rizzuh's yard, so act a little nicer or get off the damn lawn!

weapons don't kill people. People kill people.

You can kill with your bare hands, you can stab someone to death with a stick, you can always take a tour in your kitchen.. Why sign up for a contest to get a blade? To save a psychopath's 8 bucks? Your bare hands and a stick, including anything in your kitchen are free

I never EVER wanted to kill someone and a contest isn't going to change my mind. If I get a ninja star, it would be to own a ninja star, not to kill someone. Ninja stars are cool.

Like everything: nothing is really bad. It's what you do with something that makes it bad.

ex: forcing someone to swallow a pen (pens are used to write -> writing is education) is bad. Should we ban pens?

Putting a ninja star behind a glass so you can admire it, but without doing anything evil with it isn't bad. Yet we should ban Ninja Stars?

Nighthawk - yeah of course it's not personal. We're just two anonymous guys having a discussion. Peace!

I really don't think that I have contradicted myself. I never said (and I don't believe) that video game violence is a major societal problem. In fact I wrote my dissertation on this very issue. What I DO disagree with is real life violence. In my view real weapons and real violence go hand in hand. I know that not everyone with a weapon uses it on another human but I still think that we should be all pulling together to remove weapons from society - not hold them up as things that are fun or cool to own.

As for Renegade007 being banned - there was never any justification in it. The avatar comment under Renegade007's name was placed there by Rizzuh himself!

Trying to evade a ban can be fun for the whole family. If your definition of having fun is getting banned for an even longer period of time.

Since mouth isn't here, I'll do him a favor and call you all stupid for arguing about something this pointless, then proceed to declare my point of view. Which is somehow different than 'arguing'.

You're all speaking bollocks in my opinion, if someone wants to kill/mame someone then they'll do it - regardless of what they see here. I personally fancy a ninja star cos they simply look cool, chances are I'd hang it on the wall (Somewhere where it wont fall onto me!) or put it into the black hole that is my wardrobe.

I dont plan on killing anyone in the near future.
