1.6 god damn it. WTF ABOUT 1.6 A counter-strike site with no news about the latest version. How fucking sad.

hmm should Valve work on this FANTASTIC game (by the sounds of it) or should they release a patch that adds two new guns a map and a piece of equipment....I'm having trouble choosing here.[/sarcasm]

Interesting read, many thanks to X-Vector for translating it. :)

      There never was a CS1.2, but I suppose that's just nit-picking.

I'm curious to see how they handle the physics in multiplayer. Besides upping system requirements for servers, multiplayer mods that contain interactivity in the environments will have a high bandwidth cost. Ever object that can carry motion is an additional object that the server MUST track.

Devastation has a limited example of this in how it allows a lot of interaction with objects. The server options disable physics, and when enabled you see an obvious performance hit. Another example is BF1942, which carries major server and bandwidth requirements due to the plethora of vehicles and extra objects to track.

One of the many reasons CS maintains such a wide server install base is that it has relatively low system and bandwidth needs. Hopefully valves new iteration of it's controlling franchise will be able to continue the tradition.

I also sincerely hope that the engine can carry a stable frame rate. One of the nicer things about CS and HL mods in general is that just about anyone can keep a steady 60+ fps. Games like U23K look beautiful but I would never want to play a CS like modification on the engine because for now, even a great machine can have trouble satiating the beast.

Gabe Newell seems to be very ambitious... he makes it sound like HL2's going to revolutionize the world or something. Is HL2 really THAT good?

And if it is, I'm afraid what the PC specs needed to do all this AI and physics and graphics and such... It sounds worse than Doom3.

Worse.... as in, needing a more/more expensive upgrades than D3.

Everyone's got to chill out. You're all worrying about how your computer's are gonna handle the game and physics being too demanding in multiplayer. This is Valve we're talking about. They can sort shit out, they won't ruin their fan base by putting too many people in too much of a situation which either spoils their gameplay or costs them too much money.

If you want to run HL2 on a P2 300 with 64mb RAM and a TNT2 - I'm sure they'll be able to do it - but bear in mind you'll be running the game on low settings. But at least it'll run. If you want the eye candy you'll need a higher spec machine, but you'll be able to play it either way.

As for physics in MP - shouldn't be a problem. Havok and Valve together will come up with some sort of solution to make it work without being too demanding. SOF2 had a shitty frame rate through and through, but they made it just about bearable for multiplayer by scaling down the gore details in MP.

Chill out, take a pill and stop worrying about all these things. You might be able to sleep at night =P! Hath faith in thy almighty VALVe.
