moot ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mt)
Sorry rizzuh, but you're incorrect in this case. He used it as an adjective, and so it can mean 'irrelevant'. But that's being a bit pedantic.
adj.
Subject to debate; arguable: a moot question.
Law. Without legal significance, through having been previously decided or settled.
Of no practical importance; irrelevant.
If I may I would like to state something. I like DM games, i play CS like Deathmatch because I like fast paced games and i'm just not interested in stalking around slowly. So when the jump pause was introduced, it upset my style of play and the game was no longer fun.
Can you understand why this annoys me? A game which I enjoyed playing has been 'ruined' for me.
I'm not talking about bunny hopping (that's speed jumping right?) or jumping around like a madman spraying bullets. It's the simple fact that I can no longer jump up a small ledge without stopping, or leap quickly across the tops of the trains in de_train. I rate mobility over stealth.
About the poll. I think the point which was being made is that you cannot use it like you did and say that everyone got over it. if YOU knew anything about statistics then you would know that the poll IS compeltely irrelevant because the sample is not at all random. It seems quite reasonable to me that people stopped playing CS because of this issue, I know I did. And so there are going to be less people around to vote who disliked the change. Simple.
Your comment refering to the growth of the CSN community is valid, however multiplayer games are still not that big, so this is to be expected in general.
I havent visited this web page for a LONG time, I check back now and again to see if there is any interesting news on CS2/HL2.Comment

Now that that's out of the way.
I'm aware what moot means and how it's typically used however I was tired of him repeating it over and over, as if he's arguing in front of a jury.fastquattro wrote..
Hey, look at that, you didn't use quotation marks! Hey I know why! Because I didn't say that! What a hilarious twist.

Yes, that is why I said it. It's not accurate, it is not real, and neither were the first two that GonePostal used to argue for his case. Thank you for clearing that up.

So, in other words, we should leave game designing to game designers? Well, I completely agree!
i still can't believe that 57% of the people who voted in that poll are wrong. i suppose it just proves that people are dumb and don't know whats better for them.Comment

CS1.6, CS:CZ, then HL2. I'll explain later why I think the idea of CS:CZ shipping with CS1.5 is not likely. CS1.6 would need to be distributed so that CS:CZ owners don't jump online and realize there's no servers and badmouth the release. But not too far in advance, either.
As far as references to gradual release of CS:CZ weapons, there's really no room for it to be gradual. We know what CS1.6 adds, and CS1.7 stated by VALVe to be the last content update to CS before CS2. At most, you've got 2 versions to spread the weapons over.rizzuh wrote..
I'm a comment moderator on a large CS website, but that doesn't mean that all my comments are automatically better than everyone elses. It's not about status. Instead it's the fact that we're smarter than them that helps out in that regard.
Hey that's funny I run a very large Counter-Strike site and apparently you know the release date of 1.6 and I don't!

This boy can't write, but his point is that CS:CZ isn't gonna sit under the Half-Life directory, but more likely in the Sierra directory (for those of you who used the default install path). The question at hand, of course, is where the /cstrike/ directory will be located a) for people who don't have it already installed, or b) people who do. Will there be duplicate directories?
But cs will be a game it self not an addon to hl therefore it's most likely that it will have it's one little folder called conditonzero in the sierra map.
Or, alternately, will it all sit under the Steam hierarchy, and a CS:CZ subscription comes with a free "CS:CZ-Enhanced CS" subscription? What's more... does it even matter?[CSN]rH.-Gpig20[CSR] wrote..
Yes, that wonderful South Park quote really embodies the essence of most of the comments so far, especially those regarding jumping, which I won't even begin to touch on.
CRIPPLE FIGHT
Alright, we've gotten two separate release dates for CS:CZ, but both were prior to the expected release of HL2. As such, it's pretty safe to say that CS:CZ will be released before HL2. Likewise, with HL2 will come a new era of online games, so it's safe to say that CS1.6 will be released prior to HL2.
Now, we've got the battle between CS1.6 and CS:CZ for the first spot. From a marketing perspective, CS1.6 is important to CS:CZ's sales, because shipping CS:CZ with a soon-to-be outdated version of CS simply would not be good for it's marketability. On the other hand, shipping it toting "new weapons in multiplayer!" on the box will help it sell like wildfire.
On top of that side of marketing, CS:CZ is VALVe's big chance to show what Steam can do. The opening of CS1.6b was pretty poor, and while it works fine now, they really need a successful launch to give people confidence in it to the point where it will be tech that other companies will want to utilize. Releasing CS:CZ on Steam after it's already been on shelves for a while certainly won't provide gamers with the claims of getting the game faster than they could from their local brick-and-mortar.
Next, we've got the whole VGUI2 tech. All Half-Life based releases so far have been using the same old menuing system. It'd be pretty dumb to think that CS:CZ would ship with the old system, rather than a nice VGUI2 interface. I'm not Ritual's biggest fan by any means, but they're not dumb enough to not use the newer tech.
Trying to somehow mix a combination of the VGUI2/CS1.6 era tech with the older tech honestly would result in a choppy, piss-poor product, and they've got to know this. Gamers have to be able to play CS off of the CS:CZ platform, and that platform is going to be the newer tech. I'm not saying that it's impossible to bundle CS1.5 with CS:CZ, I'm just saying that it'd be so fucking stupid to try to do so, for a variety of reasons both mentioned and not, as to be beyond anything I would expect from Ritual or VALVe.Comment

that would be a good point except the people in valve overseeing the changes in cs are stupid, and therefore don't know what's good for us.

Ritual has announced that cs will have "patches" that you can add to cs which gives you the cz models, some nice effects(rain etc.) and so on.
Running a large cs site doesn't exactly make you an expert eitiher.
Ritualistic announced that it will be released in july and as far as I know they haven't released a new date by they way I haven't read cgw.CheesyPeteza wrote..

now, the compromise would, technically, mean that both would be released befor the other ... seeing as how this is impossible (even for my strange, unique, sick, twisted and demented ways) it implies that both will be released....
dum da da dum!
at the same time!
but this is not a perfect world so its probably not gonna happen ... although imho its the best option
