Hmmmm some one goofed, think this is a premature release!!!

      It's looking for a file called hlg_strike_mod.cfg, I don't have one of those. :-)

But I made one from my hlg_cstrike_mod.cfg and it works!!!!!

Just wondering, what exactly is HLDS? I know it stands for Half-Life Dedicated Server, but why do we need to download it? Is it a seperate application?

I always thought you would automatically run HLDS when you checked the "Run as Dedicated Server" checkbox under "Create Game" in the HL (or CS) GUI... and this gets updated at the same time when HL is, right? So why is this download needed? Is it some sort of enhanced server utility or something? Thanks for whoever clears this up for me.

Also noticed that there are a few ADMINMOD pluigins that won't run properly now.

/me moves back to 4.1.1.0 version of HLDS

HLDS.exe is a dedicated dedicated server.

HLDS is a stand-alone dedicated server for halflife. If you'd like to run a dedicated server but don't want to go through counter-strike and check those boxes and such that you mentioned, you can download HLDS and run it that way. HLDS is for running any mod that uses the half-life engine or you can run just plain half-life itself. Most people who do run dedicated servers 24/7 use either the Windows or Linux version of HLDS on their computers ( [shamelessplug] Linux is undoubtably better[/shamelessplug] ). You can use a console (or, with the update, windows now has a GUI) to control all the different variables and commands on the server.

Really? More and more server providers seem to be moving to Win2k.

AFAIK, Alfred Reynolds (the creator of Adminmod now hired by VALVe)is working hard on the Linux HLDS to increase its performance and stability.

I would take linux over windows any day, hands down. I've had experience with both Win2k and Redhat for server hosting (http). To be completely honest, I've experienced 0 down time with linux and about 4 or 5 serious crashed with windows.

I've also never had problems with the linux HLDS and when I tried to run the Windows version on my home installation of Win2k, it crashed everytime someone joined.

In my experience linux always seems to turn out on top.
