    New HLDS BETA

A new BETA version of Half-Life Dedicated Server (HLDS) has been released. The release of 4.1.1.1a/3.1.1.1a BETA comes just days after a semi-major HLDS update (non-BETA) was released. You can grab the file using your favorite FTP program (click through below for what's changed):

    server: ftp.valvesoftware.com

user: hlserver password: hlserver[break="changelog"]Here's what's changed for this BETA release:
    • made "kick # <wonid>" work again

    • increased max_queries_sec default to "3"

    • increased max_queries_window to "60" (this means any program can send 180 queries in a 60 second window, hopefully the various tools can limit themselves to this)

    • added "mapchangecfgfile" cvar. set this to the filename of the file

you want run on map change.

    • linux: fixed console not being able to go into the background

    • linux: fixed crash bug when server was in a path with uppercase

      characters in it

    • linux: fixed sv_stats failing on freebsd

    • linux: created optimized binaries for amd and i686 (pentium ii and

above). the "hlds_run" script auto-detects your cpu type and runs the corresponding binary. if detection fails then edit the top line of "hlds_run" to point to the correct binary for your cpu type.

      hltv

    • uses "valvecomm.lst" for authentication

    • fixed "null" player names in hltv demos

    • new command "clearbanns" - removes all ips from bann list
  • jumbo shrimp

Why is it Valve releases final versions that never work, then release a beta that works perfectly.

I thought it was supposed to be the beta that didn't work which came first? :/

I learned my lesson with the last HLDS release... I don't think i'll be asking my host to update us. HLDS 3.1.1.0.c is working just fine. :)

With all this HLDS back sass I think I may buy a server.

Good, that was a bit stupid making the server.cfg exec only once.

wtf. i just installed the new HLDS 4.1.1.1 and Valve-job releases a new Beta. i just got the nub server back up with statsme (lagme) running. i'll wait till it's not a beta before i update it again. what a pain. so is this new beta supposed to fix the problems in the official release they just dropped?

pretty much. as a rule of thumb, you should consider beta releases the stable ones, and final releases as the unstable ones. for valve that is.

thanks lestat. do you know if i can just drop the new HLDS beta DLL file into my current 4.1.1.1 installation? or does the beta come as a auto.exec and replace the whole installation?
