The oft-delayed Counter-Strike 1.6 (click for hands-on), has gotten an unofficial release date through less than concrete means.
It turns out that an employee of VALVe (identity confirmed to us through a scanned business card, this isn't just "he said, she said" or it wouldn't be posted), who shall remain nameless, dropped the bomb while visiting a German rice-rocket farm. To whom? Why, to benji, a poster of the SomethingAwful Forums which carried his account.
"Don't quote me, but CS 1.6 should be out in about 2 weeks," said the VALVe employee, assuming benji painted an accurate picture. Well, trust goes out the window because benji did quote him and now I'm quoting him too. It's a tabloid story, but it's almost undoubtedly true.
So there you go. We kind of have a CS 1.6 release date, placing the release of the latest CS update mere days after VALVe grabs some attention at E3 (mailbag) with Half-Life 2 (previews, shots).
