I'm sure rze can code something in php that ensures and validates that your ip is in fact csnationalist.

Nationalists are not tracked by their IP, but rather their login/password. Yes, there's IP ranges associated with these, but unless somebody is stupid enough to post their CS-Nationalist username and password, this wouldn't be an issue. Regardless, if logins for a single account start flooding in, it won't be hard to identify and ban immediately.

Thus... it'd be pretty dumb for anyone to lose their Nationalist status by giving away their password and trying to flood the Nationalist server, and wouldn't accomplish much of anything. Again, think back to how we handle the Member-only calendars here on CSN.

Wait though, can't you already download cs1.6 via steam? As in it'll automatically update once the patch is out. I'm confused.

Steam will update on the day of the release with all the finalized 1.6 stuff. That's what it did for 1.4 steam.
Can't you run CS1.6b currently without owning Half-Life or CS? I would guess that the Steam beta-testers will have to create new accounts and validate their ownership of HL/CS soon, though they might leave the system in place until beta testing of CS1.7 finishes. Regardless, it'll be interesting to see if VALVe learned their lesson on bandwidth the first go around, and see if the flood of crazed downloaders can be satisfied.

If I'm wrong on the beta test being open to anyone (and don't just post opinions) then let me know, but it seems like that's how it was for CS1.4b on Steam, at least.

1.6b's test on steam is open to anyone. 1.4b was not. I happened to get 1.4b, I remember it all to well. Man, Steam blew back then.

When I went to reformat my laptop, I only installed steam and CS1.6b, no Half Life or anything. Hmm...

CS1.4b was initially a closed beta test, yes, though you didn't have to actually own Half-Life to play in it.

After about 3 weeks of testing (during which the para was amazingly accurate), a Steam key generator was publicly released by VALVe so anybody could participate in the beta test. This was still valid with the change to 1.5 as well.

So yes, 1.4b was open to anyone, but thanks for affirming that 1.6b is as well.
