someone, somehow, is going to figure out how to fake octinium. hell, i have an idea right now. only problem will be to break the encoding on the thing.

everyone has different computers, thats why wwcl is so gay. it's not leveling anything, it's just giving people advantages over other people.
wwcl only causes lag when it runs right when the map changes, you connect, or when you alt+tab. it isn't 'discriminating' against people with worse computers. ask the other team to wait while the checks finish and you'll be fine

interp should be locked @ 0.1, not because it s fair everybody uses the same values but because the change of it makes you using a bug. the bug where the model and the hitboxes are not on the same place. low interp values make shootin @ moving ppl someway easier. and as long as this is not fixed (it will be in 1.6) there s no right to change the value, for a fair play gamer!

and imho, wwcl sux, earlier coz it blocked many useful things, now coz it can be circumvented in a very cheap way (even though the new cfg s for it are ok) ...

PSSSSSSSS blocking gamma wont stop anything. There are many ways around it. For instance, the little knob inside everyone monitor that adjusts brightness. Turn it all the way up and voila you can see in the dark.

ex_interp should be blocked. If you've ever toyed with it you'd know that BS is the rule of the day when it is set down.

I still hate UA's wallhack block. In 30 minutes I had a dozen instances where people just appeared on my screen. Some of which I was looking at the whole time. It's overly agressive to the point it punishes legit players.

what the crap is the point of blocking it between .05 and .1?

Most interping fags use .05 >

The argument that it puts everyone on a level playing field is high grade BS. So if I play with non default cvars for 2 years, like I have been doing, and them am forced to use what other ppl say is fair to everyone, then I am at a disadvantage to all the folks who couldnt be bothered to research the half life engine, keep track of new cvars, and make an effort to improve their play. We are always being told by CS sites that the game should be considered as a sport. Going with this argument is like saying that Olympic skiers who move to Austria aren't allowed to train there because it puts skiers in Barbados at a disadvantage. If you care about a sport/game enough, you do what it takes to get better at it.

WWCL does have the option to turn off rates checking, but I have never been in a WWCL server where this is the case. Interp blocking is yet another measure that should be implemented by Valve, so nobody on any server has the option of using it...

anybody should be able to change values like he or she wants to, but as soon as a cvar change makes you using a bug, or gives you advantages which have never been foreseen by the programmers, it should be done everything to avoid this

                          LoL 'owned'...

I don't think the majority of people that tweak their interp can even say for sure what it does. In fact, I even remember VALVe saying at some point something to the effect of "ex_interp was tested and found to work best at .1 [the default setting]." Hmm, good enough for me. I've never heard them recommend against changing any other cvars, so I think I'll trust them on this one; now, if they were to go and say something ridiculous like "we recommend that everyone leave their rate at 2500" I would become suspicious, but most of us have experienced interp kills before, and know that it makes a noticeable difference when changed.

But guys, why is it even a big deal? All you cfg whores out there that use .05 are still fine. Maybe if you read the article instead of just skimming the headline you'd notice that it says: "...Values of ex_interp above .1 and smaller than .05 will now be blocked..." Most people that alter their ex_interp set it to somewhere between .05 and .1...unless they're some sort of super-non-conformist and want to set it to .1337 because that's 'cool.'

                            Anti-config WHATing?

I'd kind of like to see someone clear up the questions FAF raised here. I could be out of the loop as well, but the most i've ever heard about ex_interp were a bunch of extraordinarily useless sogamed threads. Connection and netcode tweaks have been a necessity since quake first came out, but now it's considered "against the rules" to manually make the netcode suck less? Is this or is this not basically a problem that could've been avoided if the netcode wasn't fruity as hell to begin with?

Actually one of the reasons CS became some popular was in part due to the terrific netcode.

Have you ever played BF1942? Now THERE is some shitty netcode. I've heard stories of people having to lead the enemy by leaps and bounds in order to hit them.

Nearly all of the CS community can play just fine without changing ex_interp. If changing your rate, cl_cmdrate, and cl_updaterate aren't enough to improve connection quality, then there are some other issues that need dealt with (for instance, a crummy ISP or malfunctioning node in your neighborhood).

All ex_interp does, in short, is coordinate model appearance in relation to hitboxes. There is absolutely no reason to change it that I can think of.

If you have specific circumstances where modifying ex_interp dramatically (i.e. < .05 or > .1) helps you then please explain, or post a demo, and maybe you'll get some people to sympathize with you.

But hell, if all the best players in the world play just fine with default interp, then I don't know what your excuse is. =/

using a value of ex_interp lower than 0.1 doesnt make the models and hotboxes more inaccurate! on the contrary, a lower value makes the hotboxes MORE accurate! its a client variable ONLY, thats why players spectating a player using a low interpolation value for them it seems he is aiming 'ahead' or 'behind' the player model. in fact, he is aiming AT the model, and becasue he is using a low ex_interp value, the hitboxes are much closer to the model than the default 0.1 seconds.

most players dont actually know exactly what happens when you change the interpolation time. understandable. most of you know nothing (or very little) about how the actual netcode works from a server and client point of view. i doubt many of you know what 'interpolation' is, and how it factors into player positioning.
