HL wavs are 11khz 8 bit mono.

I like converting random songs and playing them. Its a shame the quality is ruined so hardcore, I try boosting the settings once and awhile to get better results, but sadly my attempts are futile. Much like orphy's attempt at being a metal head ;]

HL has the ability to play 8khz, 11khz, 22khz wavs. providing theyre 8bit and mono. most of CS's sounds are sampled at 22kHz.

HL also has the ability to decode 44kHz wavs, but automatically re-samples them down to 22kHz. i havnt tried with 16bit precision or stereo WAVs.

seeing as the WAV cachig code in HL is taken from Quake, it is reasonable to believe that 22khz sounds are supported (quake supports up to 44.1khz too).

Um... I replaced the italy radio (opera.wav) ambient music with a 44khz (8 bit mono) .wav, and it works... seems better quality than 22khz, but I can't say that for sure.

Granted, every so often it just doesn't play, but it doesn't crash it or anything. The Ace of Base drumbeats really add a lot to the opera music, lol. :)
