Vivendi have been sitting on this title for what, 2 months already? Now it looks like it could be another 2 months before they actually release it. You have to wonder why the are holding it back...
Obviously Valve must have a contract to not release the game over Steam until Vivendi finally release to the shops. Vivendi aren't going to be too bothered by holding back a budget title for a few months - say, until Valve have another game (HL2) to sell via Steam. Especially if they think some people will prefer to buy CS:CZ over Steam anyway (from which they don't see a cent.)
Until Valve have something else ready to release, Vivendi might well choose to delay the release of CS:CZ in order to negatively affect the chances of future sales via Steam...
Hurting Steam's sales chances would be of obvious benefit for Vivendi in the long term. So this latest delay might well be part of a deliberate ploy to try and damage Steam! Steam is not after all, a product in the best interests of Vivendi. I'm sure they'd love to see it fail.Comment

"two words: gaming industry
plus words: game publishers, contracts, business, blah bla"
So, just because of publishers and contracts etc , games should be just under one year late ?
*SHOWER OF SHI*E*
Valve are treating their customers like shit, both you and i know it.
Let's examine your words
1) Gaming Industry - Why not release the game just now ? Just after holiday season. The teens who buy this game have cash from working or presents. It's also not as if any big games are planned for the start of this year is it ?
2) Games Publishers - Vivendi has had the so called "Gold Copy" of condition zero for months, if they have it , why do they have to wait ANOTHER 2 months before actually releasing it ?
3) Contracts - These are signed at the start of development, not at the end of it jackass.........
4) Business - All forms of Business require that the customer is number one priority.
THAT IS WHY VALVE ARE A BUNCH OF DIC*S AND LIERS BECAUSE THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE CRAP, O.K.
WHEN DO YOU EVER HERE ANY OFFICIAL DATES ETC FROM VALVE ?
NEVER.
ALL YOU HERE IS SPECULATION FROM SOME TWO BIT GAMING SITE (NOT THIS ONE)Comment

Lighten up on Valve and VU bashing. It's getting to the point of trolling and you know our policy on trolling.
This topic is just like Steam; we already know you hate it. So for the 0.01% of the CS community that hates Steam/VALVe/VU/everything calm down and quiet down just a little bit. We know already.Comment

"Now that it's been out for a while, what do you think about Steam?
I'll deal with it because I have to. 44%
I love it! 31%
I HATE IT!!! STILL! 25%
total votes: 5329"
Hmmmm, seems like 0.01% hate steam, oh no wait, seems like more people hate it than like it. anyway steam isnt my problem , i like steam, but what i don't like is being screwed around my friend. there is only so much people can take.........Comment

The reason people are getting so angry is because we hear diddly squat about WHY it is being delayed. If a representative of any of the companys involved in this software gave a press statement saying "the game has been delayed so much because of 'X, Y, Z' "then at least we would know why we are having to wait for a game we are told was gold 2 months ago. But just delaying it and not even telling prospective customers is downright bad business. If my package from Ebay/Amazon is late, and I call or email them, they get back to me within a few days. How many online shops would neglect to send you a package, and not inform you of why for 4 months (which is the delay CZ will have had if all goes to plan) ? They would be out of business like a flash...
[edit] Quick update just to prove how ludicrous the new release date is (all data from Play.com)...
26/03/04 CZ released
26/03/04 Doom III released
09/04/04 HL2 released
Not only do we have the second most likely contender for "game of the year" released the very same day, but 2 weeks later we have the next version of the HL engine released.
*slow hand clap's Vivendi*

That poll was taken at least a month ago. Before all of the Steam patches. I would argue that now Steam is as stable if not more than CS 1.5 and WON. As for my 0.01% comment; I might have over-stated, but I'm willing to bet there are still hundreds of thousands of CS players using Steam and are fairly satisfied with it. Anyone remember when a new major patch and version of CS was released? You would be lucky if you were able to download and install it within 5 hours of it being released. Now, you load Steam and all of the updates are installed in a matter of seconds. There are numerous other perks that come with Steam, but we just hear about it's downfalls more often because people like to complain. You can complain, just do it in a well thought out manner. Without flaming people and organizations such as Valve.Comment

HERE IS WHAT I SAID SPOONMAN !!!!
"i like steam, but what i don't like is being screwed around my friend"
steam isn't the problem, i like it a lot, and agree valve has done a good job in replacing WON, what i dont like is what everyone else says, why is the game taking so long to come out ? , i wouldnt even be posting this shit if all valve gave us was the fucking answer clear and straight, but no, the truth is too fucking hard to tell isn't it....Comment

is anyone even going to buy this game? imagine blizzard releasing broodwar not when they did but in march after long delays, dont you think that everyone would rather play the new real time strategy games that have come out rather than out dated software that took a multiplayer game and made it single player.Comment
