i have soundblaster live, and i think it works perfectly well, so sound card is a relatively minor issue for me. as for people who "cheat" with sound...it's one of the more difficult ways to cheat, so go them...who cares :p

amen
yeah i agree that knife is horrible. Looks ugly, and the way its held as well. The thing is most people never thought there was much wrong with the original model... there are some bad cs models out there.. but the original knife isnt one of them at all.. It's actually kinda cool, I will use the original forever!Comment

Your graphics card has almost nothing to do with fps. I have a geforce 4 mx 420 64 mb sdram and I get at most 30 fps because of my pentium 2 399 mhz processor. BTW: I have to try, email me if you can donate to help me speed up my computer! stevothemanevo@yahoo.com Hey it's worth a try. :P
I don't spend time reading tomshardware or mad onion but I do know that i lagged pretty bad on my pentium3 866mhz with geforce4 ti4200, and then got a new computer but kept the same video card and now never get below 100fps in any situation. I think CPU upgrades are more important than video card upgrades for CS unless you have like a TNT 1. But like i said before: a geforce2 64MB with a good CPU is all you need for 100fps.Comment

i almost choked on my cheerios reading that, what a rediculous statement!!! roffles.

u should mention also that cpu upgrade implies memory speed upgrades, since it is the memory speed which dictates how fast a program can be executed. most ppl underestimate the influence of memory speed.

i remember doing this experiment, i downclocked my athlon 1ghz cpu down to 450mhz, using the bios, i even downclocked my memory to 90mhz from 133mhz. also i set the agp bus speed to 1X, from 4X. but kept the video card (gf2mx classic) at the same speed as before, and i noticed hardly any (there was a SLIGHT) difference in fps in quake3, HL, CS etc.
then i upclocked my cpu, memory, agp bus back to maximum, and downclocked my video card, and noticed a huge drop in performance.
so in certain circumstances, the cpu speed isnt THAT dominant.Comment

CPU and video card both contribute to what kind of fps you are going to get, it isn't entirely dependant on solely one or the other. Both are capable of holding the other one back. There are tons of factors, it isn't a clean-cut issue where you can say that one is more important than the other.Comment

puffy.. eax isn't ogc... eax is annoying as hell. echos can help a bit i suppose, maybe you hear footsteps echoing when you're in a room where they won't echo and that lets you know where they are, but really eax is just annoying.
i used to play with eax, for many many years, but turned it off recently and now i don't hear one guy making 4000000 footsteps due to echos, i just hear his footsteps nice and crisp in one direction. i suppose it's a matter of personal preference.
before i get flamed, i used eax on an sb live and my nforce2 which fully supports eax and eax2

and as far as the poll is concerned, what gives you big advantage... well mouse is definately one of them, if you're using some terrible mouse that is terrible at tracking then you won't be able to hit shat.. it's possible to play with low framerate, albeit it not well. as far as upgrading goes, people need to realize that if they're still running a geforce2 on a k6-2 500 then the first thing they need to do is upgrade their cpu till they max out their video cards ability, then they should worry about upgrading the video card.Comment

ive used EAX for a very long time, and ive never experienced these echoes you talk about? maybe u havnt configured your EAX properly?

thats true, both contribute, its just every piece of software uses the different hardware in different ways, one will stress CPU more, one will stress VIDEO more. its just a matter of luck.

umm mouse isn't much of an advantage :P i'm using an optical mouse. this optical mouse is so fucked up u wouldn't beleive. if someone is behind me i have to carefully turn around or else it won't turn me at all and the scrollwheel is fucked up as in DOESN'T WORK. if i put too much pressure on my mouse like pick it up and set it down a lil hard it does mouse1 function. I still own you all with constant 3.0 ratios
