You can tell a difference in your overall enjoyment of the game with a nice sound card, but I wouldn't claim it makes you a better player.

yup, EAX doesn't add much. A3D did though. You think you can pinpoint people with what you're using now, man, you'd be amazed at how much better it can get. Well, could get, at one time.

EAX helps a lot when ur facing an AWPer. Listen for the echo of the AWP, you can hear which way it fades, and therefore which side the AWP is on.

i dont care about cal rules im not using that fucking knife. ever. it would get a 3/10 on the custom skin of the day. god i hate it. its not even high poly, and it looks like it should be in some shitty sci-fi movie. god its bad. its blue. and yellow.

No, it'd get a 1/10, and it only deserves that 1 for having new animations.

In actuality it would easily get a 9/10 by the official reviewer and around a 7/10 by the CS nationalist. You have to look at it subjectively. The knife really is too loud to be official in CS, it belong on a custom model page. it's not high poly because it's in official cs and has to work on the wide range of systems CS officialy supports.



Those of us who have been using default since the betas are use to our knifes being plane, simple, and clear cut deadly (ok maybe not so deadly). Valve throws us a curve ball with this one and of course we are going to reject it. I don't think it belongs in the official model pack either, but to say it would get a 1/10 is just ridiculous. It would never get below an 8/10 by the SOTD reviewer.

I think Valve spent a lot of time looking at the custom model community and thinking "hay it looks like CS players like their models to be unique and lively!" When in actuality many many people use default and stay away from the custom model community for just the oppisite reason, including myself. We don't need a camo themed M4A1 complete with infrared scope and handle strap, the defaults are perfect. It doesn't matter though it's just the knife, and you only see it in the first 10 seconds of the round.

not true, a modern video card has full DMA.

i actually prefer to play cs 1.6 beta now, because it lets me use EAX with my crappy SB PCI128 sound card in winxp, cs 1.5 doesnt let me use EAX. it used to in win2000pro, but not in winxp.

I don't spend time reading tomshardware or mad onion but I do know that i lagged pretty bad on my pentium3 866mhz with geforce4 ti4200, and then got a new computer but kept the same video card and now never get below 100fps in any situation. I think CPU upgrades are more important than video card upgrades for CS unless you have like a TNT 1. But like i said before: a geforce2 64MB with a good CPU is all you need for 100fps.

yeah i agree that knife is horrible. Looks ugly, and the way its held as well. The thing is most people never thought there was much wrong with the original model... there are some bad cs models out there.. but the original knife isnt one of them at all.. It's actually kinda cool, I will use the original forever!
