Steam, 1.6 Updates

A fairly minor Steam update was posted yesterday as Counter-Strike turned four years old. Steam is VALVe's content download manager that allows its users to play CS 1.6 BETA, but sadly Steam has never been officially released to the public. Along with the minor update, Erik Johnson posted word of a CS 1.6 BETA update coming soon which will likely address the many issues that came from a recent major update.



In absolutely unrelated news, the CS: Condition Zero box was revealed yesterday.

1.6 has to be a huge freaking update if it needs this much testing.

Almost every video game requires a good amount of testing before it goes from a Beta status until it's "gold". And the bigger the game, the more testing is required. A bad release will absolutely kill the game.

Mine still stops when im trying to start a sever with bots or joining a sever, its very annoying as i can't play it :'(

when i visited that steam forum where the cs bugs are posted, i think that CS 1.6 has a long way to go before it reaches its final status.

I think that cs:cz is going to be released before 1.6 if the VALVe guys have to fix both STEAM and all the 1.6 bugs...

when they finally release 1.6 is it steam only or like 1.5? I can't remember what they said.

1.7 will be steam only if I remember correctly.

Does anyone else remeber back when the originally leaked the beta and then s aid that 1.6 would go through only ONE month of testing and would then go final? I do, and i have to say that this has been by far the longest month of my life :P

Did you ever PLAY cs 1.6? I mean, the first game you're playing needs some extra downloading (again) So the best to do is start a lan game and go eat your lunch or something.

They probably didnt' expect there to be this many bugs.. If you want to help speed things up, start playing and finding out the bugs and what causes them then post them on the forums with any ideas you think may fix em. if everyone did this it would probably be out a lot sooner :]

That happened to me for a while. Sometimes worked after a few tries, sometimes I just had to wait a few hours or so until I could log in again.
