              CAL-i Semi-Finals

              Sunman shoots 3D's Rambo. The 5.56mm bullet, in the last round of a close de_train match, removes Rambo's remaining three health points and kills 3D's shot for the finals.

              zEx advances to the CAL-i finals. 3D, the team that no site can predict a loss for, is removed from another CAL-i playoff. If 3D is really America's only true hopeful for this Summer's CPL event, then Americans need to hope that 3D LAN will once again entirely out-class 3D online.

              zEx > 3D, 13-11
              Gamers-X and TEC went into overtime, after an excellent streak led by TEC's elude pushed the match into a tie. Gamers-X then put down the hurt and won the required four of six rounds to take overtime, and the match.

              GX > TEC, 16-12
              Those in the running for the CAL-i season 8 finals have been decided: Gamers-X vs. zEx - Monday.[break="more info on tonight's matches"]Tonight, the best clans in North America face off in the final set of matches before Monday's CAL-invite finals.

              Gamers-X and TEC, in what some might call the "the team that'll play 3D" spot. Let's not be so judgmental though. The zEx and 3D match will be where all the eyes are tonight. 3D is pumping everything into preperation right now, with the CPL--and not CAL-i--on 3D's mind. 3D's hoping to go through the motions with zEx and soundly defeat them; a precursor to their dreamed CPL Summer Event victory. zEx, however, won't go down that easy. If they manage to beat 3D a lot of gloating will be heard and plenty of doubt will be put into 3D's CPL hopes. That's a pretty big if, though.

              Even then, 3D's CAL-i performance just a single month before the Winter World Championship event was cut short under the exact same circumstances. Give them a month, and they take home gold.

              TsN will have live coverage for 3D vs zEx, as you can read about below. GotFrag has predictions up for both of tonight's matches, and will be doing web-based coverage as well.

                CAL-i Semi-Finals

                Last night 3D defeated a strong Ascension 13-11 and heads to the semi-finals of CAL-invite (HLTV demo). Click through for some predictions![break="Predictions"]TSN will be shoutcasting both matches beginning at 8:30 cst. Tonight the map is de_dust2, which is usually a championship match but for CAL's purposes becomes the semi-finals this time around.

                zEx vs WeekEnd Warriors

                zEx was without a doubt the #1 contender this season, but I don't think they'll be moving into the finals tonight. In the past WEW has defeated zEx a number of times both online and on LAN. WEW is most definitely preparing for tonights match and zEx as well, but when it comes down to such a long-range map one of the biggest factors to consider is the AWP, which WEW is masters of. Other top teams really don't put a lot of emphasis into the AWP anymore due to it's lack of versatility but I think this will be the factor that outshines zEx tonight.

                WEW -over- zEx :: 14-10

                Team 3D vs Team TEC

                This match will surely be a tough one to call. Most recently at the end of the season TEC took out 3D 13-11 on Inferno. However, dust2 is a speciality for 3D and they've almost always had a secure win playing this one. TEC isn't a team to scoff at, though; they went from mid-level to top-tier clan this season and proved it by staying this far into the playoffs. 3D will most likely use some new strats tonight as their dust2 strats that lead them to a world championship at CPL are now well documented. I'm calling a win for 3D tonight, but TEC has surprised in the past so it's really up in the air.

                Team 3D -over- Team TEC :: 13-11

                This would setup the finals to be WeekEnd Warriors vs Team 3D on de_inferno. I'm calling this as the championship final but all of these teams are strong and well-qualified and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see zEx vs 3D or zEx vs TEC or WEW vs TEC. For those irc cs-nationalists out there, if you'd like the catch a scorebot of the action it'll be zEx vs WEW in #calcast and TEC vs 3D in #calcast2 on irc.gamesnet.net at 8:30 cst. Enjoy, and we'll have HLTV demos up as soon as possible.

                  CAL-i Semi-Finals

                  The CAL-i semi-finals were played earlier tonight. csflicks.net has the demos and here are the results!

                  W.E.W -over- zEx :: 17-7 (Sublyme)

                  As I hinted in an earlier post, WEW had the upper hand tonight as they had trounced zEx 13-3 before on LAN, and tonight was really no different. zEx, while "online superstars" (with the connotation being that they are excellent online and strong on LAN but not to their full potential), were just not able to put it through tonight as they won their first half 7 to 5 and were smashed 9-0 by WEW before leaving the server and forfeiting the rest of their rounds. Congrats, WEW - after all these seasons, you've made the finals.

                  Rival -over- 3D :: 14-10 (rizzuh)

                  Rival, who seemingly came out of nowhere this season, have improved upon their record by beating 3D. After WCG and CAL-i, which should have been a shoe-in for such a quality team, it seems as if 3D needs to add something new to their formula before the Winter CPL begins in just over a month.

                  Thursday night Rival and WEW will face off to determine who is the best online team in North America, setting the stage for the ultimate showdown in Texas as America tries to grab the CPL gold with stuff world-wide competition.[break="site politics"]SinaC has disappeared recently, but hopefully he'll return next season for some more predictions and coverage. On a related note, I would like to formally apologize to Barricade and the rest of WEW for some comments s0ph and SinaC made about Sub3rror. Obviously it isn't their place to decide who does or does not cheat based on gossip and an HLTV demo. I apologize for our lapse of professionalism. Edit: originally I had thought SinaC made these statements exclusively, but s0ph made inappropriate comments as well.

                      Even with some of the qualifiers you put on your post, the zEx/3D match is nowhere even close to being certain enough to call the GX/TEC match a 'who will play 3D' match, even half-jokingly...

                      It's not even close to a big if. It's more like a 50/50 shot here on picking the winner... zEx is a DAMN good clan. To be honest, if I was betting on this match, I'd take zEx.
