Thats actually a pretty neat idea, making your own copy of Hl2 out of cache's. It would be even better if you made a custom Steam/HL2 installer, that would simply extract all the Steam/HL2 files to a directory. It wouldnt even be that hard to do.

Nice review from Mod Database, although I believe I read somewhere that Valve timed the run speeds over the maps, and they are identical to the originals.

I still have no clue why you would want to backup your half-life 2 files, or want a CD. If you bought half-life 2 on a steam account, no matter what computer, no matter where, no matter what kind of connection you have, half-life 2 will forever be on that steam account. Someone said that a problem was that they didn't want to download half-life 2. Well okay, if the steam content servers give you 1mb/sec, why are you complaining about a 1-3 hour wait? Go outside. You have plenty of time to preload it right now too.Comment

Well the whole point is to have a backup so you don't have to spend hours redownloading every time you reinstall. Some people just don't have the time to wait and when you want to play HL2 NOW it would be better to take 2 minutes to drag from a CD than spend several hours redownloading.Comment
