CS:CZ is singleplayer Counter-Strike, nothing more, nothing less. If it was released when it was originally supposed to have been years ago it wouldn't have had such steep expectations.

It's not the "next thing" in counter-strike, and was never supposed to be. If you lost interest in a single player counter-strike game sometime between the announcement and development switching mess, then there isn't really anything here for you.

      how can it beat daikatana?

this was never going to be cs2... wasn't the whole excitment for CZ to create a single player CS? they did that (twice in one package), now people are pissed because it wasn't some huge multiplayer update? in the 3-4 years development on CZ you've receieved a steady stream of updates to CS multiplayer..... free...?
well said peagle, CZ is a single player experience there's no reason to bash on a game becaues they didn' tuse Ritual's model. But they're still in there anyway so i have no idea why people are still complaining about models

I wasnt complaining so much about CZ itself as much as the interview. i myself will be buying CZ online through Steam no less in order to support Valve (and not crappy Vivendi)!!!

Whats the point in giving such a useless interview if you have nothing to say?

PS due to the weak dolalr against the pound I get to buy CZ for about 17 pounds hehe

I can understand peoples frustrations with the models - they are one of the most visible parts of the game and with just a little bit of effort and some nice new models, Valve could have avoided a lot of flack along the lines of..."but hey it looks exactly the same as vanilla CS!"

Hear hear, peagle. Not trying to flame anyone in particular, but I'm really sick of hearing complaints about CZ. Sure, the delays have been ridiculous. But the game is what it is; a single-player Counter-Strike experience. It's not for everyone. If $40 is too much, just don't buy it. It's not gonna break any sales records, but a lot of devoted fans are going to buy it. Personally I'll get it as a way to thank Valve for years of free support for a game that I've played the hell out of and enjoyed for a long time. Rant over.

Oh yeah, the interview was pretty vanilla, but I didn't expect anything more than that.
Actually, you're wrong, it wasn't only single player. The original was going to have customized skins etc. You could change the face and camo etc. And then they were going to change everything with rituals models... But then, valve gets their hands back on the game, and they change the way the maps look.... Wow. Big improvement over gearbox/ritual? Doesn't sound like it to me, or Cliffe from this interview.

I was referring to what we've known the game was going to be for going on a year now.

I miss the days when I was excited at the thought of Condition Zero.

For Condition Zero, we had the luxury of working with a lot of talented people (Turtle Rock Studios, Ritual, etc.). The most important part is that, at the end of the development cycle, we have a product we're proud to offer to gamers.
                    I thought that was funny!

Yah, ok. I wanted the game, way back in 2001 when gearbox was gonna make it. Was gonna have awesome stuff. It's ashame valve didn't seem to know what they were doing with the game.

HEY HELKITE !!!!!! valve have never ever bothered to fix sprite errors, that pic is a perfect example, and i wouldn't be at all surprised if it was like that in the final version. This is still a problem in normal cs that can be easily updated, but hasn't been done, specifically if you look at the muzzle flash origin on the p model of the m4a1 while a team mate/enemy is firing, it appears nearer the shell ejector rather than nearer the end of the barrel.

Regarding CZ, why oh why did it take so long to release ? I can tell this will happen to Half-Life 2, as once again valve hold out a carrot on a string to make us poor videogaming donkeys chase it.

Now the negative is over and done with, i think half-life 2 will be the best game ever, this is where valve shouldve focused all its resources rather than making a shitty version of cs, though on the plus side, i cant wait 'til all the little cs:cz newbies come online, as i can feel there will be some very funny ownage upon them :-) ***weeps***

                        peace out, DA

P.S. The molotov cocktails & gas grens in cs were just hype from valve, they couldn't be arsed writing the code for them :-D

It wouldn't have been VALVe writing the code for those items regardless -- it would have been one of the other developers.

But really, why isn't there an outrage that, unlike originally planned, there's no machete, poison dart crossbow, or grenade launcher? How the hell are we supposed to play Counter-Strike without those?!?

Point being, there has been a lot of different ideas about what would be in CS:CZ, and one of the biggest mistakes was simply announcing things before they were final. It started with announcing the game before it was remotely close to being finished, and continued with PR about features that were ultimately axed.

So yeah, I understand the disappointment over the lack of certain things you thought would be in the game, but you have to realize there's been so many different ideas for what CS:CZ would end up like that you really can't take any of those into consideration at this point. Just look at what it is now, and spend or save your money accordingly. No point in bitching about it in the comments, eh?
