  • Harmonix Launches Kickstarter for PlayStation Exclusive Amplitude

Clocking in at a mere 18 days and a goal of $775,000, Harmonix has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Amplitude. Unlike most other successful Kickstarter campaigns, this is a Kickstarter only for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. The original was published by Sony, so it probably stands to reason that they own the IP, hence why it's limited to just those two platforms.

In the first few hours, the Kickstarter has already raised more than $107,000 towards their goal. It is a bit odd that Harmonix went to Kickstarter for this, especially after a number of notable Sony employees have also voiced their support for the Kickstarter campaign, including Adam Boyes and Shuhei Yoshida.

It has been almost 11 years since the original Amplitude was released for the PlayStation 2. It was the predecessor to the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises. There are a number of different backing tiers, as you may expect. One includes a house party with Harmonix, others include invites out to Harmonix, one of them includes a dinner with Tim Schafer (because why not), and more. The lowest tier that you could pick up to get a copy of the game ($15) sold out within the first hour or two of the campaign being live.

Harmonix is also pushing for a custom soundtrack for the game, meaning you shouldn't expect any big name songs to show up in the game. They also promise to maintain the gameplay and the feel of the original game just with a fresh coat of paint and updated content for a modern era.

You can find out a ton of additional information over at the Amplitude Kickstarter page.
