Next-Gen Tomb Raider is Coming as Confirmed by Square Enix

Despite the relatively poor sales of Tomb Raider (seriously, it's a great game and you should go buy it), Square Enix has confirmed that Crystal Dynamics is moving forward on a new entry that is slated for next-generation consoles.

The news comes courtesy of Square Enix CEO, Phil Rogers, and his open letter to the fans of the company.
"Square Enix is in production with a number of next generation projects, including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which were announced at this year’s E3, and Thief coming in 2014. I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!"

This was quickly followed-up by a message from Darrell Gallagher, Crystal Dynamics' product development head.
"We're very excited to confirm that the team has started working on telling the next chapter in Lara's tale. It’s still early days, so I'm afraid I can't provide any further details for now save my assurance that we're not resting on our laurels and acclaim from Tomb Raider's recent successes, but working hard to raise the bar even higher and re-affirm the faith you've shown."

Rogers' letter may have been a necessary step to reassure fans that things are going full steam ahead at Square Enix in the wake of some recent remarks made by Stephane D'Astous after he departed Eidos Montreal. D'Astous was the founder of Eidos Montreal but felt compelled to depart the company with some not-so-positive remarks about the state of the studio's future.
