Microsoft, what in the flying hell do you think you're doing? The company has just revealed that they will not be including headsets with the base Xbox One console. So when you pick up your shiny XBone this Christmas, the only way you'll be able to communicate with your friends out of the box is through your Kinect.
If you want the headset, pictured below, it will cost you extra and be sold separately. The fact that it will not come bundled with the system was confirmed today via Xbox Support's Twitter account.
As mentioned, no price for this simple headset has been revealed yet, but Microsoft has been promoting a number of third-party headsets that go for upwards of $200 from companies like Turtle Beach and Polk. In addition, if you think you can use your 360 headset, think again. Thanks to the One using different technology, the old official 360 headset will not work. Some third-party headsets may work but only if you acquire a special adapter once they are released.
Microsoft has also revealed a shot of the Xbox One controller's Play and Charge Kit (also pictured below). This is also a separate purchase as XBone controllers are packaged with a battery pack that normally requires 2 AA batteries, just as the 360 controllers did. The PS4 DualShock 4 controllers are similar to the PS3 controllers and include a rechargable battery built in by default. The PS4 also includes a headset in with the system and is not forcing their camera peripheral on gamers.
