It seems as though when the Xbox One launches in November, Killer Instinct will launch along with it in two flavors. One offering will be where you pay one price and you get the full game immediately. The other offering will let you download a free version with only one character unlocked (Jago).
The demo will let you then pick and choose what you may want to spend money on, opening the game up more and more based on what you want to play or see. Eventually, you will have "bought" a demo that best fits your wants or you will have ended up just paying for the full game anyway.
