Steam Chat Enters a Beta with Chat Logs and a Web Interface

The Steam chat has entered into its own beta today. The new beta, as far as we can tell, introduced chat logs, which have been a long requested feature from many Steam users.

In addition to the new log functionality, it seems as though the new chat is geared more towards browser users and most closely resembles the chat found on the mobile version of Steam. Strangely enough, it also seems to remove some functionality such as the /me command and making URL's into clickable links.

You can check out the beta version of the chat for yourself by going to the Steam Community beta chat page. Note that if you are using the beta chat, you will show up that you are logged in as "mobile" to your friends.
