Digital Foundry has some "hard data" about the tech being used in the PlayStation 4, codenamed Orbis. Let's take a look at what this "hard data" entails.
- Eight-core CPU clocked at 1.6GHz
- CPU utilizes new "Jaguar" tech from AMD (CPUs designed for entry-level laptop and tablets)
- ATI Radeon HD graphics card, possibly 7970M variation
- Video card possibly running at 800MHz with 20 "Graphics Core Next compute units" though "Orbis" will utilize 18 CUs
- Separate GPU-like "Compute" module that will be used mainly for physics and other work typically left to the CPU
- 4GB of GDDR5 RAM
- 512MB of RAM reserved for the OS itself
Blah, blah, blah. These rumored specs, however, do seem quite close to the latest rumored specs of the Xbox 720, aka: Durango. Remember those? I mean, we only posted about the Xbox 720 hardware rumors less than two weeks ago, how dare you forget already!
