Battlefield 4 Rumors Include the Return of the Commander Role, Next-Gen Consoles, and More

Chinese news site, Chiphell, had some interesting pieces of information yesterday concerning Battlefield 4. Understandably, there is a very real possibility that none of this is true but rumors are always fun to read, right?

A translation of the content from Chiphell from a user (Lasgana) at NeoGAF details some of the major pieces of information and can be found below.
    • Coming October 23rd, 2013
    • development just started, expected to be done in 1 yr [Nirolak's Note: Since this is the one likely to elicit the most "this is fake" notes, I feel I should elaborate. Given some later points (like already have an internal demo), this seems to refer to EA's normal two year development cycle of a one year pre-production cycle with ~30-40 people and then ballooning up to 150-300 people to make the game after most things are prototyped and planned out. Visceral, BioWare, and a fair number of publishers outside EA also operate this way since it allows you to have multiple projects without cyclical layoffs due to scaling down in pre-production and scaling up in production. For example, during the downtime between Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, DICE's spare staff worked on making Medal of Honor's multiplayer and helping to build Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. As to what the bulk of DICE's staff worked on prior to this going into production, it's probably either a second project or, once again, other EA games.]
    • will be on pc, ps3, xbox360 and next gen consoles
    • will be one of the first games for next gen consoles
    • commander system comes back
    • profile can be linked with other devices like ipad
    • auto login, need internet all time, support cloud saves
    • easier to pickup the game, to take care of players from CoD
    • support body and voice control for this commander system
    • better battlelog integration and better stats reporting
    • supports video playback and sharing
    • have gem store for dlc and other stuff like that
    • 3 factions: russia, usa and china
    • can deploy female soliders
    • frostbite 2.0 engine
    • pc, ps4 and xbox 720 supports 64 player maps
    • 360 and ps3 will be less
    • pc, ps4 and 720 will provide 60 fps
    • already have a demo video internally within EA,
    • matching the quality of BF3 already
    • bf4 will use 80% of power of frostbite 2, wheras bf3 only 30-40%
    • modern background
    • i mean story background

Again, this is all just rumor at this point. There hasn't been anything officially announced by either EA or DICE about the state or features of Battlefield 4. In fact, the only thing we do know is that it is being worked on and that there will be a beta for it later in 2013.

I'd rather they stopped re-using old maps. I want all new maps for BF4.

        1. go old-school. get rid of battlelog, origin, and all the other crap i have to have running just to play a game.
        2. get a anti-cheat that works.

I take it with a pinch of salt. Commander but on the other hand make the game easier for CoD players? Maybe if they have a lot of different games mode yes but I somehow doubt it, or it's a commander with very little power (although I don't want the arty/eye in the sky back). We'll see later.

EA is like: Oh my god, look at the success of Natural selection 2! And they have a commander mode! What if we bring it back?

            - - - Updated - - -

Edit: Even better. Battlefield 4 will be Battlefield 3 with everything people wanted: Commander mode, battle recorder, more factions...
