Valve Introduces Heat Maps for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Heat maps are nothing really new to the world of shooters or other competitive games. However, they are new to the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta.

Using data gathered from the most recent run of de_train, Valve and Hidden Path put together this rather detailed heat map of death for the map. Behold, the result of some 6.5 million fired bullets just in the short time beta testers had with Train during the beta.

Our data collection is extensive. We track nearly every player action, from individual bullets fired to weapon purchases, and the resulting data can be used to help us evaluate game design decisions.

A straightforward way to visualize the data we collect is through heat maps. Heat maps can reveal player preferences, choke-points in maps, sight-lines for snipers, and much more.
