Wow, things just got real for the Kickstarter for Wasteland 2. As it stands, if the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter can hit $2.1 million in the 16 days remaining, inXile Entertainment will bring in Obsidian Entertainment to help with the game's development.
Let that sink in for a moment. If this happens, this will be the closest thing this generation has seen to the rebirth of Black Isle Studios since the company dissolved in 2003. Black Isle was responsible, at least in some part, in bringing such classics as Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and Fallout 1 and 2 to the world.
Right now, the Kickstarter is sitting at $1.76 million in pledges. This figure is already over $150,000 more than where it stood just earlier today. Chances are good that the $2.1 million goal will be met, but don't take any chances! Be sure to get your pledge in over the next two weeks. This would be fantastic news for all parties involved, including the gaming community at large.

Says Chris Avellone, “Wasteland is one of my favorite RPGs of all time, and when Brian asked if I wanted to work on the sequel, I jumped at the chance. While I’ve worked on Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas, getting the chance to work on the spiritual successor to the Fallout franchise is a honor.”
Brian Fargo observes that “I have a history with the guys at Obsidian that dates back to the days of Interplay’s Black Isle studios. Together we created some of the greatest RPG’s of all time, from Fallout 1 & 2 to titles like Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment. It is great that we now have a chance to reunite on a project like Wasteland 2.”
