CoD:Elite Offerings Now Listed and Challenges Faced for PC Version

RangerXML posted up two threads that co-exist with each other and what may be happening to the PC side of things:

Both the Free and Premium accounts on Elite get:
    • Call of Duty Profile
    • Access to Elite on multiple screens and platforms
    • Analysis and Performance Infomration
    • Track Player Profiles
    • Join Clan Groups and Friends
    • Theatre Setup

The Premium account at $50 per year also gets:
    • MW3 Downloadable Content, including all MW3 maps
    • Competitive Program Guide
    • Exclusive Clan Only Benifits
    • Dynamic Expert Strategies
    • Join Premium Groups
    • Early Access to Elite Features
    • Premium Theatre Setup
    • Elite TV

Now the main argument about CoD:Elite is the $50 price tag. If we look at the MW3 DLC option that the premium offers, the website states that there are 20 pieces of new MW3 DLC that will be released over a period of 9 months. I am assuming a "piece" is a map. With that assumption we also know that CoD DLC has been five maps in a DLC at $15 each. That would make the 20 pieces be four map packs at $60.

With that in mind the Elite gives you all these additions AND the DLC that is released in pieces earlier for $10 less than if you were to buy just the DLC and use Elite Free.

You can check out the Elite website here to get more information about these offerings and further details.

OK, so now you know what Elite is offering and its price range and all that; we now come to the second part that RangerXML posted about the PC side of Elite. OneofSwords Blog posted some information about the Elite versionf or PC having some challenges:

For anybody who does not listen to the weekly One of Swords podcast, this week we started talking about what the impact of MW3′s dedicated servers could have on Call of Duty Elite. Specifically, I spotted this interview with Noah Heller at Eurogamer which got me thinking. He said:

We’re working really hard right now on the customised version of Elite for the PC, because it’s an open platform and has some challenges.

Hmm. While they both coexist as valid options for gamers, PCs and consoles grew out of — and still inhabit — different ecosystems. The PC is absolutely not a console. (Ask any hardcore PC player and they’ll loudly and proudly agree.) The PC’s strength as an “open platform” is the fact that you can make it do whatever you want. Dedicated servers, configurable as the admin sees fit, put a lot of power into the hands of the players, which is exactly the way we PC gamers like it. But when it comes to something like Elite, that freedom could mess up everything. You need to know that the data being reported from the servers is not being altered — which strikes me as impossible if the servers themselves are inherently and gloriously alterable. If the stats are cocked up, those stats are meaningless — and it would be an abject nightmare for anyone trying to run competitions based on that data. And that’s a big part of Elite.

Noah’s comment says they are customizing (not abandoning) Elite for PC, and I wonder how extensive that will be. Personally, I am preparing myself for a PC Elite experience that is in some way different from what I’ve been seeing so far on Xbox 360. I would hope that a lot of what they have discussed — personalized stats, social groups, access to the improvement advice, stuff like that — would still be there. I guess we’ll see when they have it sussed. But I do worry about the implications of awarding a new iPad or a brand-new Jeep to someone who runs an aimbot.

Valid points brought up about the stat and contest side of Elite. I doubt this will affect everything else on elite as far as the PC side goes. How will Beachead Studios solve these issues? We don't know yet. All we do know as of right now is that CoD:Elite will still be for PC but may have to be a bit different.

The Hardened Edition of Modern Warfare 3 includes a year of Elite, however, we also do not know if that will be available for PC.

So time will tell how CoD:Elite will look for the PC platform. Hopefully everything will get ironed out and maybe this may put a stronger emphasis on security for the game to stop cheating.

I just found this on 402's tweet:

@skinsfan314 16 maps on the disc and you eventually own the DLC after your subscription ends (if subscribed a year I believe).

So the game will release with 16 maps to begin with. For those wondering if they will cut down the map count and claim it as DLC.
