Console Focus for Battlefield 3 is in its Innovation

It seems the 30 frames per second on console are still an issue. It seems though that no one is asking the players if that's an issue.

So for those that play FPS console games a lot, how does the 30 frames per second vs. the new things in Battlefield 3 actually affect you or your decision on Battlefield 3?

You can listen here from Eric Hirshberg, from Activision who is publishing Modern Warfare 3, on how 60 frames per second is important for console and is part of the success of the Modern Warfare series.

You really can't compare BF3 to MW3 because they are two very different games. MW3 doesn't have the bigger maps, vehicles and destructible environments like BF3 does. So of course they can run their game at higher fps. And if that is all the ammo they have to go against BF3 then that is not enough in my opinion. But they will sell a crazy amount any way because of the COD name alone. I also think that people are getting wise to the fact that it is the same game almost every year and on the same engine and it is getting stale. If the next iteration of COD isn't on a new engine with new game play then they will lose the war with BF3 in the long run.

Talking of consoles, apparently it's going to span 2 discs for the 360.

See, thats what I want to know. How does this really affect console players? Halo obviously did well. Where there issues with it being 30fps?

The entire argument comes down to that. If 30fps is a problem or not to console gamers. So many are jumping on the 60fps thing, but does it make any difference? Are we talking HDTV vs. Analog or are we talking 1080p vs 720p?

Im no longer a console gamer and havent been for years, so I dont know if it makes any difference or not, but as a guy standing on the side lines looking in, I want this question answered. Then we can go from there.

And lets say there is a difference. Is the difference so much for it not to be worth the environment BF3 is going to provide? We're talking destruction, vehicles, and jets all in this very fluid and detailed map with this sound system and character movement all bundled together. Is 30fps game breaking?

A lot of people like to point out MAG and how grand scale it was, however, looking at video footage, it doesnt compare to what BF3 is doing. Not even close.

Also, is it a big deal if BF3 was on two discs for Xbox? Is that a deal breaking thing or what?

30 fps is playable even on PC (if it doesn't fall under 30), even though you can clearly feel the difference with 60fps.

Yes, thats true and the FPS does make a difference in PC since it is not locked and one person can have 100 and another 30, or less, and it is a game changing deal.

With console, everyone is locked so there wont be an advantage like that. I think MW2 was locked on PC as well to 60, or maybe that was the FOV, I forget. Probably both.

In related news, the Xbox 360 and PS3 version are running at 1280x704

And yes, MW2 was locked to 91 FPS and had locked FoV.

But on the console side of things, it is also important to mention that sitting further away and the motion blur makes 30 FPS seem smoother than it does on the PC. And as far as I know, most console games actually run at 30 FPS.
