Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition Details Leaked

RangerXML posted up this article from kotaku.com:

The "Hardened Edition" of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 appears to have had its contents outed earlier than officially planned, contents that include a one year membership to Activision's Call of Duty Elite service and other virtual goods.

Wired reports that it received a photo of an advertisement for Modern Warfare 3's "Hardened Edition" from an anonymous source. That ad promises a long list of bonuses for those who are comfortable spending more than the standard $60 USD asking price.

The "Hardened Edition" will reportedly include the aforementioned Elite membership—which includes "future Call of Duty: MW3 downloadable game content," like map packs—and "Special Founder Status" for Elite, granting "Hardened" owners exclusive emblems, camo and "more exclusive benefits."

In terms of physical goods, expect a Steelbook case, special game disc art and a "collectible field journal" 100 pages long.

Attendees of this week's Call of Duty XP convention will be getting a free copy of the "Hardened Edition."

Typically, Activision prices its Call of Duty "Hardened" limited editions at about $80 USD, with a more expensive variation, the "Prestige Edition," costing almost twice that. The publisher has done so for both Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. I suspect we'll know more about the many ways to buy Modern Warfare 3 by end of week.

So a year free subscription to CoD:Elite is included with the special case and disk. Good question brought up is will this be an offer for the PC and Playstation platform and will the Elite subscription include DLC?

What I meant with that last question was, will we get to keep DLC content once Elite expires. Elite includes all DLC released during you subscription, but the wording is a little iffy if it means that you only get access to the DLC while you are subscribed. For example, if Elite is $5 a month and we expect 12 months before the next COD title and there are 4 DLC like for Black Ops (which would normally cost $15 each), then you would come out to $60 (12x$5). So with 1 year subscription you get 4 DLC, plus what ever other exclusive content there will be and it is more then likely that there are going to be discounts for how long you sign up for Elite. If you keep the DLC afterward, then $60 really isn't that bad considering you would normally pay $60 for just the DLCs (4x$15).

I've been considering this since I learn DLC were included in Elite and each game has been getting more and more DLC content. And now with dedicated servers back it sounds like this maybe fun and worth it. I'll have a 2 weeks with BF3 to help me make up my mind (plus what ever the BETA offers).

No Bobby Kotick jokes yet? Amazing. I'll start us off. The Hardened edition is named after Bobby thinking about all that money.
