The point is Origin tracks hardware AND software activities on your PC, at will with you not having the choice to opt out. Steam randomly selects PCs and then asks if its ok to check your hardware and software configurations.

Do we really know that? There has been a lot of talk about what the TOS allows, but I haven't seen any confirmation of what Origin actually does.

Exactly my point. Why worry about Origin having my IP when it is already public anyway?

And it's still possible to get everyone's IP from dedicated servers. Get rcon access, and type in "/status"

Your IP is already public, there is no masking your IP unless you go through a proxy. With MW3 being on dedicated servers with free public server files you no longer doing p2p unless you choose to (so no more DDoS annoying hosts like in MW2).

If your saying its legalese, go run Wireshark and watch the traffic of info going back and forth from Origin, compared to Steam its insane.

Yay! First time I posted something that made the news!

This situation is being blown out of proportion by pretty much everyone. This has been done for years now and won't change because some fear-mongering magazine decides to run a sensationalist article on what amounts to a non-issue. Like Vreki said about a proxy, unless you do that and never use the internet, you leave so many electronic fingerprints that it is pretty hopeless. The article is blowing the situation out of proportion by stating that it can collect any and all data from your computer. It looks like what it can track are things that are entirely reasonable for a program to track- tracking the usage of Origin, what you bought/ downloaded/ installed through the service, and how often you used the software downloaded from Origin. And it happens to give your IP address which is already everywhere which helps the marketers understand the demographics of users.

Yeah, the escapist seems to be looking for many reasons to stop gamers from Buying battlefield. So I'm going to sensationalise by saying:

The escapist is low on money... and they seem to be posting a lot of things that get sensationalised about BF3... THEY MUST BE BEING PAID OFF BY ACTIVISION OR BETHESDA!
