DeltaGamer had a lengthy interview with Daniel Matros (aka Zh1nt0) discussing his role as Community Manager and about Battlefield 3:
If you’ve been keeping tabs on gaming news at all you might have heard of a little game from EA called Battlefield 3. The DICE developed shooter looks to be bringing the big guns this coming fall for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
We’re very fortunate to have the opportunity to have a chat with DICE’s Community Manager, Daniel Matros. Here is the first part of our conversation where we talk about his job, gaming preferences and the first person shooter genre in general.
Enjoy!
Daniel Matros, also known as zh1nt0 is the global Community Manager of DICE.
DeltaGamer: First off, care to introduce yourself to some of the readers who might not know you? How long have you been with DICE and what is it you do exactly?
Well, my name is Daniel Matros, I´m 24 years old and go by my alias – zh1nt0 online. I grew up north of Stockholm with my 2 parents and my older brother. We were all pretty much fascinated by PC games. Back in the days before games even sold big. I remember playing Wolfenstein 3D, Wing Commander Prophecy and other games before I was finally hooked in FPS games like Quake, Half-Life and Unreal Tournament. I’ve been with DICE since June 2010 and am the Global Battlefield Community Manager. I develop the Battlefield communities, engage in community activities and manage overall community contacts as well as travel around the world to attend events. Making sure the players voices get heard in the studio is very important as well as playing a key role in PR and Marketing strategies as well. Also I don´t want to see myself as a VP of the community, more of a project manager working for the community. The job includes a lot of hard work and dedication if you want to get to know your fan base. I’ve seen marketing slogans such as “We help you get to know your fan base,” no way, no how. No one can tell you if you’re in the position I am in what our fan base is all about. It’s my job to find that out by myself by talking to directly to the players. Yes it takes a lot of time and yes there are a lot of users out there but it’s really a matter of hard work and a lifestyle.
DeltaGamer: Why did you want to be a Community Manager? Please explain your name? Do you hate vowels?
Haha! The name comes from Japanese mythology.
