This latest interview from IGN confirms that a game like Battlefield 3 is entertainment:

Since this is another interview about if DICE is worried about war in their games, one of two things may be going on here:
1. The interviewers are asking very generic questions that get asked about by every FPS developer and need to fill in space for their interview because DICE is keeping a lid on things.
or
2. DICE has some controversial themes in Battlefield 3 single player and is setting this up to begin with so they can show history that they are a peace loving group of developers that just want to entertain us by AI torture in their games.
