New Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand Expansion Details Tomorrow

Planet Battlefield has the following information:

The Battlefield Facebook page has word that new information and images about the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion pack will be revealed tomorrow. Additionally, interviews with the leader designer of Back to Karkand and designer of the original Strike at Karkand are also promised.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the very first images and new details on the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion pack! Includes interviews with the Lead Designer of Back to Karkand and the designer of the original Strike at Karkand map from Battlefield 2.

Currently the Facebook site is down, but by this it sounds like we will get a bit more information on what they are doing to bring some of the look, feel, and maps of Battlefield 2 into Battlefield 3.

The maps in question are Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Penninsula. The map pack will have the destruction and rendering of the Frostbite 2.0 engine as well as have weapons and vehicles of Battlefield 2.

With all that in mind, will this expansion pack be a hit for Battlefield 3 or will these maps loose their luster and change everything about them with destruction?

sharqi is possibly my favorite map of any game ever, so i am super excited to play that again. i hated karkand becasue of the nade spam, but with destruction it might be awesome. wake island will be awesome again as usual

Gulf of oman - greatest battlefield map bar none. Greatest map in general.

That is a strange tactic. Even before releasing the game they are already lining up an EXP. Isn“t that usually done when players start crying about new maps, around 6 weeks after release?

However it would/will be fun to play them again. I still remember playing the demo of BF2, Gulf of Oman until my fingers cramped up and my eyes started bleeding.

More of this expansion crap huh? The game isn't even out yet. Not a good sign.

They want to maximize the ROI on developing the new engine.Call me cynical, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Special Forces revisited as well as Euro Force and Armored Fury. After the release of BF3 proper of course.

Operation Road Rage,Midnight Sun, Warlord, Ghost Town with Frostbite 2? Yum.

I have no issue with that myself. I know everyone goes on about this, but I would rather see a game have these "module" games than entirely seperate games every year or two or three. We all know that DLC divides a community, but so does entirely new games. I like the way they did BC2 and Vietnam. It quickly flips to the other game and you can flip back just as fast.

Actually if you think about it by them doing this they cause more people to pre order making the release much larger.

That's just concept art, wait until the real pictures. But I imagine they aren't making a perfect remake anyway. Same basic layout, but probably slightly different architecture (graphics), less dust, etc.

EDIT: The caption for that picture says: "An early piece of concept art for the Frostbite 2 reimagining of a true classic. Meant to represent lighting and color palette only. Actual map layout will be very similar to the original. Click for 1920 x 1080 version."
