Why does everyone want a re-port of BF2? I know it was a great game but let it go. Plus if are a Karkand whore then you gonna love the Karkand expansion for BF3.

Mis-steps? I thought full-destruction was a good Idea? And I thought it was the rank system that came from Battlefield 2 that was expanded upon in 2142 that made its way into CoD that was a bad Idea? Why wont people make up their minds? Why must I ask so many questions?

You ask questions because the arguments are contradictory with everyone else and too vague.

Ok let's see; the only arguable "misstep" is the continuous and steady rebalancing of air assets through both BF2142 and Bad Company series.

the only arguable "setback" wich is obviously influenced by the console origin of the bad company series, was the loss of the comm rose; a system that was basically so perfect it only got a minor but sustantially enhanced upgrade in BF2142; and got copied by everybody and their mother except CoD.
the comm rose got to the status of default feature that nobody misses it until it's gone, but doesn't get lauded for being in; kind of like "start" is always used for pausing a game. that's not a written rule, but you expect start (or Esc on the PC) to pause a game/bring up the game's menu.

Now it's basically unthinkable for a team based game to not have some sort of comm rose; I have stopped playing very good games that don't have it, since it's very hard to communicate when it's not implemented regardless of there existing voip or not. I don't know if any other game before BF2 had some sort of sysem like that, but BF2142 perfected it and you can't really go anywhere beyond that without turning it into a contextual nightmare.

If anything, we should be glad DICE tried to do away with it, since it got a lot of flak for doing that; and now they (should be) are aware that the PC community at least can't do without comm rose; they might even implement it for console, and then console players will be able to experience one of the best if not the best method for communication without a headset. again: how is that a bad thing?

the other BF2 gameplay "features" were the ability to basically control your hit box at will in what constitutes downright cheating within the rules. We could argue endlessly that this is a display of skill, but I still sustain that if your character looks like he's standing in one place, his hitbox should reflect his current position, I shouldn't need to metagame that it's a bit to the left or right of where the actual polygon model is; jumping and going prone should NEVER allow you accuracy and insta headshot from maximum distance with a LMG, ever.

The natural state for this kind of game is the pub; you shouldn't need to custom tailor the game modes/install mods to get the best playing experience; that alone in my eyes broke BF2. Out of the box and patched is a terrible mess of a game and I shouldn't have to play a mod finished 2 to 3 years after launch to get my best playing experience, they should be just that, ADD ONS.

There was more than the commo-rose as a setback with Bad Company, like the loss of big maps with some space to flank for example, commander, squad leader, mode of fire selection, prone, 64 players, jets. And even BF2 had some setback compared to BF1942, but BF isn't a very innovative series to be honest, they have a good gameplay and try to refine it instead of innovating, it's a miracle we've seen another game mode than conquest.

The only thing I hated about the BF2 commrose was the goddamn PoS commanders spawning the living f*ck out of "enemy spotted".

It made me ragequit so hard and so fast so many times.

                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"
                  "Enemy spotted"

For the whole damn game? No thanks.

The thing is though is its NOT a setback with Bad Company. Its a setback for those that wanted the next Battlefield game to be in BC2. For everyone who played BC1, BC2 was even more awesome as well as for those that expected BC2 to be like BC1 and not Battlefield 2.5.

I played BC1, I even have max rank (in like 40 hours). It all depends if you consider the BC part as a sequel of the classic BFs or not.

And don't you think thats an issue? People think bc are equals to BF when dice came out prior to release and say it is not. So the bf community ignores that little tidbit and compares it entirely on bf.

Then the true sequel is starting to show and the same community says it looks like bc so it can't be a true sequel.

So as someone that just read posts everywhere, the assumption can end up that bc is the sequal but bf3 is not.

Now to me, that's a problem. I mean anyone can think whatever about a game, but to ignore aspects to continue that thought doesn't make it correct.

Well you can see that in this way, a BF:BC takes the place of a classic BF and means no classic BF in the same time and BF:BC, even as a spin-off, can be considered as having some setbacks in term of gameplay whatever the name the BF has (mostly due to being a console port but that's irrelevant). Like if they release BC3, you know it's not a classic BF, but it means no BF3.

Yeah, like I said, you can view any way you want to. Thats your opinion and/or anyones opinion for that matter.

This kinda reminds me of the C&C games where there is C&C and then C&C: Red Alert. The games were the same with two different story lines. There were fans of one and the other or both. As far as games went they were the same style. Same game, but not. Much closer in comparison than BF and BC for sure. Waymoreso.

I get what you are saying though. Those features you listed made the game lacking and some used BC2 as that substitute. My issue is that its being used as that excuse. The excuse I see is either why BC2 sucks or why BF3 will suck. BC2 sucks because it doesnt have <insert features here to make it BF3> and then BF3 will suck because its visually like BC2.

I guess Im too defensive on what the game was meant to be vs. what people wanted the game to be

Like this game. People want it to be exactly like BF2 and EAsy Studio has said it is not exactly like it. People complain about that. Well, BF2 exists, so go play it.
