I was referring to the fact that Bohemia Interactive developed Operation Flash point: Cold war crisis and then moved on to ArmA after Codemasters decided they were going to be douches... But thats right, It was adapted to/from US military training software.

What other settings for SP campaigns could they use? They want to stay politically correct, and the conflicts have to be occurring now. The only immediate one I can think of is the U.S. in the Middle East and Russian extremists.

And Russian terrorists isn't really a stretch. There are still a lot of rebel extremists in Russia. Now, saying the Russian government goes to war with the US is a bit too far (i.e. MW2, BC1), but Russian terrorists or rebels aren't. But yes, a lot of games seem to be going the government route.

I hate to pester you all with this; but seriously, BF2142 would have benefittedm ore from a single player campaign narrating the events from the start of the ice age, to the turmoils and riots form the loss of food; the mobilization of chosen people over to fertile soil and what really started the PAC-EU conflict.

I had hoped Northern Strike introduced the dwindling american armies somehow, hell can oyu imagine a chapter in the campaign that narrates how the EU put in motion an operation to steal the anti gravitational technology from PAC? There is a lot of perfectly serviceable material to draw from; BF2142 screams epic from everywhere.

And Rambo, BF has never been a combat simulator; and Arma number of players is pitiful comapred to BF; why would you want the game to become smaller and more elitist anyways? yeah combat simulation is cool sometimes, but that's not what BF is about.

and shifty, needing 2 billion points of rank up doesn't make the game need more skill or anything, ranking up on bf2 only meant you either played a lot, or played a lot and scored high on every game; it's the same principle as grinding korean MMOs where max level is a direct function of time invested. Not fun at all. It's bad design.
Not saying you should be able to unlock and rank up to max in a month; but shouldn't take years either. I liked 2142 and bc2 unlocking tough, you get everything you need in the first couple of weeks, then you can if you like, go for max rank and gold stars, but there is plenty of game left for the sake of playing.

Maybe if they added specialization ranks for players dedicated to a single kit or specific requirements? that would be neat.

I totally agree about the story for BF2142... it had so much room for creativity.

                @ Crunch

ArmA didn't need every key on the board. It was quite a simple game to be perfectly honest. The keyboard options menu has ten thousand different keys for different functions if you want to play that way, but you can quite easily do just about everything with the movement keys (sprint, forward, left, right, reverse), the stance keys (prone, crouch, standing, lean left/right) and the action keys which are in a simple scroll-wheel menu. The command menu isn't too complicated either, it's just numbers. You use numbers in every other game to select your weapons. I don't see the issue other than the options let you use 20 different keys for the same functions or make context-sensitive crap.

Personally, the campaign sucks and most of the multiplayer modes suck because the AI is generally retarded unless it's ordered around by a human. I only played warfare mode and stuck to small fire team sized engagements with other friends who also commanded a fire team, so generally squad sized or platoon size combat. The more AI you give yourself to command the more problems you have. The game is far from perfect but it certainly isn't unplayable. I enjoyed it very much when I used to have my gaming rig.

                @ BF2142

The game had a lot of single player potential, but I'm sure they had a deadline and budget like every other company out there. It's sort of like Left 4 Dead in that it has a ton of story potential but they decided to invest their time and money into amazing gameplay instead.

                @ BF3

I was disappointed, but not surprised, when I heard they were making it a multi-platform game. I was disappointed with the last couple of major FPS games because they were console ports with 0 recoil.

A Project Reality aiming style and recoil would be my preferred gameplay for anything other than Call of Duty. I think BF3 should make you wait a second or so for your aiming to be nigh-perfect but continue to sway depending on your stance. Recoil should be uncontrollable like in BF2 if you don't fire in bursts.

I just prefer having different armies to fight with like in CoD because they'd always have different fighting tactics and weapons. And I don't mean the recent CoD's.

Now look at all the parts I highlighted. A lot of people like Arma and I am not knocking them that do. I played it and I thought it was bad and your comments only cofirm what I was saying AND you went into more reasons why.

The point is that I play FPS games for fun and a little competition and Arma is a prime example of what is NOT fun for me. So thats why I said it. I dont think people realize what they are asking when they say to make BF3 more like Arma.

Arma does have some great things, but I would rather play PR than Arma and I would rather DICE get ideas from PR than from Arma as well.

One of the major thing of OFP1/Arma is the mission editor, it's very powerful and easy to use, I played a lot of awesome coop missions or fun game modes. If BF had something like that it would easily be my top 1 game.

Project Reality is definitely better than ArmA. I just wish the PR devs would actually make their own game instead of mod other developer's games, so they wouldn't be so limited by the engines.
