Generation Kill, Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, All Are Inspiration For Battlefield 3
Re: Generation Kill, Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, All Are Inspiration For Battlefiel
I didn't said it was wrong to create a SP, it's just the inspiration they took, I fear we'll only see US soldiers cleaning thousand of "bad" guys with your squad of heroes with some tragic moments here and now. Although with Dice I reckon it cannot be as bad as MW2 or MoH SP.
In term of gameplay I have yet to see, I just hope there's not a script every 3 meters and you're stuck in some corridor map.
Re: Generation Kill, Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, All Are Inspiration For Battlefiel
No, Rambo did.
And your english is great Infernalis, dont sweat it.
All war movies are the same. Im sorry, they are. Ive seen hundreds of them. The plots, bad vs good. Stopping bad/becoming bad/who is bad, so getting inspiration from MODERN warfare movies isnt a bad idea.
Re: Generation Kill, Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, All Are Inspiration For Battlefiel
Well consequently the biggest film making industry is in the US.... so what do you expect? and your English is fine.
When it comes to war movies, you usually don't watch them for the plot, its just a male saturated adrenaline rush with cool action scenes. The thing that was good about The Hurt Locker was that it was realistic (somewhat), which half the time totally kills it for me... because there would be a voice going off in my head saying "... that would never, ever, happen in RL -_-."
Re: Generation Kill, Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, All Are Inspiration For Battlefiel
Actually I expect nothing, not even from Dice who try to sell the game and cannot go into something too realistic or something that might hurt the US consumers feelings.

I'm not looking for a genre defining SP game. Go play BioShock if you truly want a good storyline. I hope it will be a good ride, but it ultimately can only go far being the type of FPS game it is. I think everyone, even DICE, understands that.
Plus, they've said they're trying to not be too political. I think they're using a modern setting (i.e. war in the Middle East) because it's something we can easily relate to. That's not such a strange thing if you think about it. Look at the first Iron Man movie. Tony Stark is imprisoned in the Middle East, not in Soviet Russia and deals with terrorists, not communists like he did decades earlier. It's just the setting and I don't think anyone had a problem with Iron Man. I certainly understand that there are plenty of war buffs and people who like games set in previous wars, but a game can have more impact if it is more easily relatable.
CoD4 pulled that off pretty well, but the series has just gotten ridiculous since then. I think that's why people mostly don't like MW2 and BO, particularly the story modes. It's because they're just too fantastical and unbelievable for the genre.

Yeah... WTF? Why did russia have to pull a crazy ivan and go evil? The civil war in russia was believable... Russia using the U.S as a scapegoat is not. Personally I am sick of the whole "Russia is evil despite not being communist for 20 years now, nor have the resources to do such as thing", its really starting to get on my nerves, and I don't know why Bad company One had it... and why IW decided on the same thing for MW2.

I thought BC was supposed to be more tongue in cheek though, i.e. making fun of CoD, whereas the MW games seem to take themselves very seriously.

I won't get into the movies this game will be inspired from. However, I would like to say that I am quite sick and tiered of the stereotypical military factions, easy-to-get XP awards, unlocks and ranks.
I miss playing for weeks to gain a rank in Battlefield 2. I felt a sense of pride I didn't get in games like Call of Duty where I ranked up every other kill with a massive XP combo from killing a person on a killstreak with a headshot after a "comeback." In other words, I hate instant gratification that makes me feel like the devs assume I'm a brain-dead 12 year old with the attention span of a small bird.
I have more confidence in DICE than most game developers. Battlefield 1942, 2 and 2142 were simply outstanding.
I was following Codemasters for quite a while but they have proven many a time to be pathetic hypocrites aiming for Call of Duty whilst using the Operation Flashpoint prefix. I think I'll stick to CryTek and DICE for decent games for the time being, at least until they too switch to the dark side.

Arma comes from VBS 1 & 2 (virtual battle system)
I think the army was using flashpoint and then went we wanted a full simulator and asked for VBS to be made.
VBS is used today by the USMC as a simulator and cost $3000(its like arma on steriods if you can believe that)
Arma is a nice watered down version of that.
This is why Arma is way cool :salute: and i hope BF3 is close.
