    Gamestar Magazine Battlefield 3 Summary

    From Planet Battlefield:

Our friends at BF-Games got a copy of the Gamestar magazine that features Battlefield 3. They read through it and posted a summary in English of the important points. Thanks to -=Punkbuster=- for doing this.

The worldwide interest in Battlefield 3 is very high so I made a summary of the most important information of the GameStar cover story (Issue 04/2011). First of all let me start with a comparison to the article Matt Bertz wrote for GameInformer. German editor Fabian Siegismund also played the demo level but describes it in another way and gives more detail to the destruction. Here is an example: when the huge building collapses during the earthquake it buries and destroys a Blackhawk helicopter. Patrick Bach says that debris can hurt characters. Important here: we are talking about the singleplayer. Not tested or confirmed for the multiplayer (Bach: "We'll see")!

Talking about the multiplayer the text contains a short summary about the multiplayer aspects editor Siegismund was able to see. I’ll give you that aspects in form of a list:
    • Most important fact but most likely a typo or mistake: 32 players for the console.
    • At a screen there were four classes with five slots for equipment. No further word about the details of the equipment list given
    • Siegismund says that he has seen a F-16 and a Su-27 Jet. Important here: there is a render / picture at the article that shows a F1-8 Super Hornet and not a F-16. Don’t know if this means the existence of both jets or a typo.
    • Siegesmund talks about a “Replay-Function which was also included in Battlefield 2”. In our opinion he is talking about the Battlerecorder (as a function to replay whole games). His statement concerning this function: “DICE is playing around with a feasible version for BF3”. The function is not confirmed.
    • Sound: DICE is working with a revised system for the sound that enables players to detect from where a vehicle or enemy soldier is coming. Every object (aka tank, helicopter has up to 80 soundchannels with different sound from different angles.
    • Singleplayer: there will be Quicktime-Events where you have to push the mouse buttons to win a fight. The example here: an enemy tries to stab you with a knife and you have to defend you (knock him down / kill him).

    BF-Games.net

Some items are getting lost in translation, so it is hard to say what is correct and not. It could be possible that 32 player is for console. There were a number of tweets from DICE developers about the chance of making that larger.

Some more pieces of the Battlefield picture for sure. See anything interesting or something you did/did not think would be?

Quicktime events? They really ARE going after COD! At-least the Multiplayer is coming along nicely, and atleast the SP will be more than bots running around dying.

I really don't have any objections with sparingly placed quicktime events, as they occasionally add a nice change of pace to the otherwise run-and-gun nature of modern FPS campaigns. I wonder if the 5 slots are just equipment (not including weapons), or are like the 5 BC2 slots (primary, secondary, the 2 player perks and the vehicle perk). For the sake of variety I hope that it is the former.

I would actually like to see some kind of defence against somebody trying to knife you. I am tired of being knifed emptying my clip into the same persons torso with no great effect.
If you were able to push the person away if you face them then it would be more fair. Obviously if they sneak up on you from behind then it is fair game but if you turn around and discover them then you should be able to defend yourself with something that works.

How about knifing them back? Or backing away from them while shooting them?
It is manageable as long as we don't have any of the COD style knife-lunging.

I honestly don't read into this stuff. I just noticed the guys voice and thought people might want to see the video. Figured crunch could do what he wanted to with it. Until this game informer news came out I couldn't name a gaming magazine.

If anything it seems this gamerspawn or w/e is a nice place to get information from. I mean they have to be paying good money for that voice. They have some older and nice videos also that summed up the previous "leaks." Remember when leaks were actually leaks? Those were the days; most of them are just publicity stunts now after realizing leaks generated a lot of talk.

I went straight to the points listed in the original post here and barely scanned over everything else. Same with the game informer stuff. I just want the points/summary I don't really care about anything else, ADD.

Oh jesus christ people are so xenophobic... Something new? Arrrrrghhh no. I want a copy and pasted bugged out version of BF2! What's wrong with a quick time event? It's something different and it could fresh things up as long as it's not over used.

Stop comparing every thing to COD for damns sake. A lot of things these days are copied from COD4 and will be for a long time, COD4 got so much right that Activision are still milking it 3 crappy releases on! No matter how much they butcher it some sucker still buys it hoping it is another COD4, even Yhatzee had nothing (really) bad to say about it.
                        ]
It's called evolution, nothing is really original these days. The best games take the best bits of lots of games and merge them together seamlessly to make a great game.

I agree with mtrooper, a defense to knifing would be nice but whats to stop someone from making a macro button for the Quicktime-Events and winning every single encounter?

So he played a multiplayer demo, saw a SU and a F16 but doesn't confirm any flight characteristics? Doesn't seem like a very good sign to me but maybe DICE doesn't want any of that info out yet. I'm eagerly awaiting to hear what kind of ceiling frostbite 2 will have, especially after being subjected to BFBC2's extremely low one.

the quicktime event thing is a console thing more than COD thng.

BF has now been totally consolized.

                              QQ moar, shall we?

According to this information the quick time events are only in SP, which you guys don't even care about at all, so why are you complaining? Quick time events are a staple of many console games, but that doesn't mean the whole of BF3 is being "consolized;" that's called jumping to conclusions. Plus, there's nothing wrong with them if they're not overdone and done tastefully, I think, especially in a story mode sort of setting.
