Pure Gameplay Action for Bad Company 2:Vietnam

    From the Battlefield Blog:

Ah, Friday! Just a few more days before the launch of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam now. And to whet your appetite, here's some ingame mayhem from maps Hill 137 and Vantage Point, as played by the team here at DICE. Nothing fancy as far as cinematic trailers go, just the awesomeness of playing the game in its rawest form. Hope you enjoy it!

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam releases on Dec 18 on EA Store/Steam, Dec 21 on PS3 in North America and Xbox 360 world-wide, and Dec 22 on PS3 in Europe. For more info on Battlefield: Bad Company 2, visit the Official Site.

It looks pretty cool and I'm considering it. Is there a price tag on it, and do you need to have BC2 linked to Steam? (sorry, haven't really been following it )

I'm no too intrigued but considering there's nothing better to be released soon and the price is ok (5maps+new content).

I expected it to look like that. The visuals on the maps are a lot better, but as far as the soldiers go and their actions, its what I would think it should be.

Ok so it may look/sound a little better but that just goes to prove that money is the drive now behind DICE. They put all this effort into the new maps they are selling (Vietnam) to make them cinematic and such but when it comes to the maps in MP7 (1) that keeps the the original game of BC2 alive they put in the minimal lag full effort they can be arsed to do. Sadly it appears that DICE [once again] are going down the rout of Activision.

Re: Pure Gameplay Action for Bad Company 2:Vietnam

All the maps are cinematic. There are little triggers that cause fly bys or bombs to come down. Many many many people love the new maps and they are a lot of fun and well done. People wanted larger maps, they got it. People wanted more maps, they got it. People wanted scopes on the M14 and G3, they got it. People wanted to keep the community together, and with vanilla BC2, so far, they got it. People wanted Specact for PC, they got it.

If DICE was going down the route of Activision there would be no more patches by now and those free actual maps, along with the other modes, would have cost. I paid for BF2 expansion packs, 2142 expansion packs, and Im going to pay for the Vietnam expansion pack. I wouldnt be surprised if they make a 1943 expansion pack and its probably going to look like BC2 and its probably going to cost $15.

As for lag and hit indecator issues, show me the Battlefield game that didnt have the issue. Also, show me the DICE patch that didnt break or nerf something. You can't because it doesnt exist.

People wanted mod tools, they didn't get it. People wanted unranked server files, they didn't get it. People wanted the M16 to be put back to how it was, they didn't get it. People wanted a decent fix for the CG / M203, they didn't get it. People wanted an expansion pack that was akin to previous expansion packs, they didn't get it. People wanted prone, they didn't get it. People wanted working joysticks, they didn't get it. People wanted fixed wing aircraft, they didn't get it. People wanted a Battlefield game, they didn't get it.

From what DICE used to put out, to what they currently do - they have become more like Activision in their approach to new content. Now, don't get me wrong, I fully understand that times change, but the fact is DICE set the precedent with 1942. The content that they did release (be it free or in expansion packs), was massive. As soon as you deviate from that, you will come under fire from the fans.

Lag / hit indication - was fine in 1942. And the last couple of patches for that neither broke nor nerfed anything.

Which, DICE said before release, there were not going to be those things. People wanted Battlefield 3, they didnt get it, your right. This isnt Battlefield 3.

I played 42 also and it was far better than all the others, but it was far from perfect as well.

The only things (in my list), that was confirmed as not being in before release were fixed wing and prone (and maybe unranked server files). The rest are things that should have been fixed (M16, CG / M203), or should have been working from the get go (joysticks).

My post was just to balance out what you had. Something to show that DICE doesn't fulfil every request. In fact, I'd go so far as to say those that I listed are far more important than the ones you did. It's like they picked the easiest things to do, so they can say that they do listen to the community. I bet the majority of the community when asked, 'would you rather have mod tools, or SPECACT?' It wouldn't be the pointless new soldier textures that got the vote.

I never said this should have been BF3, I just said that it's not really a Battlefield game - a few vehicles sprinkled around a map doesn't make a complete battlefield. It's more like COD or MOH + vehicles. Which, again, I'm not saying is a bad thing.

I will add, that I'm not getting at DICE, or BC2 (which I do still play), I'm just trying to bring a little perspective to the discussion. A little balance :)
