    Vonderhaar Thinks Little on Glitchers

    From mtv.com:

Just like "Modern Warfare 2" before it, "Call of Duty: Black Ops" shipped with numerous multiplayer bugs that users are gradually finding, reporting and also exploiting. Treyarch's taking a hard line against everyone posting video evidence and attempting to become "Internet nerd famous," though; so said Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar.

"Some are people using old dashboards or old versions of the game," Vonderhaar wrote in the game's official forums, according to a report on GameSpy (the forums appear to be down right now). "Others are claiming victory on old dev builds that don't even connect to the version of Xbox Live that you use. Others are reproducible issues that we will hotfix or patch just like we said we would. In essence, we likely know more about it than you do from watching a video on Vimeo or YouTube." <!--more-->

Vonderhaar didn't want to "make mini-celebrities out of douche-bags" by posting a laundry list of offenders and their video posts, but he did lash out at the culture that he believes is giving them their fame.

"What many of these people want is to be Internet nerd famous," Vonderhaar explained. "I'm not going to make them famous and you shouldn't either. Internet hysteria from normal people is exactly what they want and that's how many people reacted today."

In the end, he expressed a vote of confidence in Treyarch's team that's now working on fixes for problems that have materialized. If you're one of the people he's referencing who've posted a glitch exploitation in action online, though, you might want to want in the other direction if you ever run into him on the street and he knows who you are.

So what are your thoughts on this? Are glithers evil and ruining the game for everyone or are they trying to point out flaws? Do you think these glitches could be avoided if there were a lager test pool before release? Kinda like a beta?

I came up with a way to destroy tanks in World at War by yourself, though it was announced many times how it was meant to be a team effort. Are things like that actual glitches or not thought out well in design?

It really depends on the glitch. the karkand hotel thing was evil, being able to blow a tank up by yourself is good. Fix the dam glitches when they come up and stop crying over people posting video on what you screwed up on.

It does make any sense to buy a game on release day any more. It's broken, missing half the game, and over priced for what were getting. Even with beta games are still coming out this way. Beta=Demo.

Generally speaking, glitchers are cheaters. But I don't see how I can put the blame on those reporting the glitches.

In essence, we likely know more about it than you do from watching a video on Vimeo or YouTube."
If Mr. Wonderhair knows the game so much better than the users playing it, then why didn't he fix all the major bugs before release?
Or does he like how the official forums crashes twice a day due to the amount of complaints?

An Extremely simple answer... Treyarch = FIRE your Testers and Employ the People who found the Glitch's ..

Just think the so called Treyarch testers have had the game for months and these guys found it out in days (if not hours)..

They dont need to fire their testers, they just need more that will go and search these things out. Having coders and a test lab is great and should be used. They can find specific issues and know how to quickly correct it. The thing is when you have a thousand eyes looking at everything in a game, you are going to find more than if you have 15 eyes looking at it.

Being in the IT industry, I look at equipment differently than the average Joe. I see how it is going to work and they see it as how it should work. They dont know by clicking this box or erasing that line is going to change something. I dont know that they are going to do that to change it. Same would go for the devs of this game. They are not going to check every inch of a map or look at what we would think are obvious places to try.

So, TL: DR version, they need more testers and in a more realistic environment, not just fire the ones they had in a perfect world scenerio.

Or, they could just stop being so arrogant and just do what they're paid to do.

Oh, I dont know about that. It might be true, but even the really large beta tests that I have been in, we didn't find everything. There are million things that can go wrong that are never even thought of.

Prime Example: When we were testing Northern Strike for 2142 someone found that you can stop a Goliath DEAD by placing a sentry gun in front of it. No one else thought to do that and I think it was found out entirely by accident. Someone put it in place to kill the people in the goliath bay and the driver just figured he was in the biggest tank in history, so he should be able to run right over the little sentry gun.

So that was entirely by accident and the devs didnt think to do that.

I am sure the Treyarch testers are more focused on making sure the game functions how it should than to find the minor bugs. There are millions of people playing this game and there are still new bugs being discovered. If it takes millions of people a while to find bugs, how long do you think it would take for a small group of people to find them?

Speaking of glitches that i havent seen anyone else mention yet. Has anyone else been using any semi-automatic weapons whereby you have to keep clicking the mouse to fire? I keep getting a bug where after a few shots my gun doesnt fire but i keep standing there clicking the mouse in front of the enemy. Its getting very frustrating ><

I see where he is coming from. But honestly, I dont think it helps him or his companies image by just ranting like this. Calling them douche-bags and nerds is not really going to do him much favours to be honest. What he should have said is that his team are aware there are bugs, they are trying to fix them, if you find a bug please report it on our forums so we can fix it as fast as possible. Rather than raging that people found exploits in their games (surprise surprise) and just trying to shout at them.

Argh thats extremely frustrating then. I have literally had dozen of times when im firing straight at the guy to have my gun feel as though its just stopped working.
