Battlefield: Bad Company 2 brings Onslaught as as the game reaches 5 million

This just in from the BF Blog:

Battlefiled: Bad Company 2 has officially exceeded 5 million units sold world wide. Thanks to everyone who has supported Battlefield and bought a copy. In other good news we can officially announce Onslaught mode coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Onslaught is bringing co-op gameplay to Battlefield for the first time on console. The new game mode puts you and up to three friends against the enemy on Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes and Nelson Bay – redesigned with new lighting, time of day, added vehicles and other effects. Each map has a dedicated gameplay focus, requiring different levels of teamwork in order to complete the objectives against an onslaught of enemy AI. Vehicle warfare comes to the forefront in Atacama Desert while Nelson Bay focuses squarely on infantry assault. Players can compete in squads and check individual progress via the dedicated Onslaught leaderboards.

Senior Producer Patrick Bach had these few words to say about Onslaught mode “We want to consistently support the fans playing the game with new ways to get into multiplayer and also challenge the elite players with new experiences to improve their performance online. Effective squad play is the key to success in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer and this new mode will provide players with a dedicated environment to test their team skills and rank against the competition.”

Onslaught mode will be available on Xbox Live and on the PlayStation Network.

I still haven't played much more than the first level of SP, but I hope this makes it to the PC too.

No, we haven't signed away rights to console on this.
The problem we have on PC is that all our servers are dedicated with providers. Changing a server from Conquest 32 players to Onslaught 4 players cuts out 28 player slots from the total ammount available. This could have a dramatic affect on the PC online environment if enough servers changed to Onslaught.

We aren't ruling out Onslaught on PC but at this time we are researching how to bring it to PC without affecting players who don't have Onslaught or their own server to run it on.

Gonna have to be P2P for PC I think, unless they release a special server client that only runs onslaught.

Wow if this doesn't come to the PC, then to me, that is a slap to the face of every PC gamer.

Everything is a slap in the face to PC games. If it does come to PC, isnt it a slap in the face to PC gamers that pay for those slots that cannot be used?

On the flipside, there is squad rush, which only has 8 players. It seems to work, I think.

Logistics have to be ironed out or its lose lose no matter what.

A: While I'm willing to pay to keep a 32 player Rush server running, I don't know about paying to play 4 players against bots.

B: I highly doubt I'll pay for such a game mode. But if other people choose to, that's up to them. The need for a full-on rented dedicated server will likely put off a lot of people, though. Servers are provided for consoles, not PC gamers.

Screw the mode, that night map looks sick. Just give us more maps.

I dont give a toss about the gamemode and agree it presents some significant issues

but I agree, would be cool to have the different map variants available

Isnt this like Co-op in BF2/2142 just with more variety? This really seems more something that appeals to console gamers, even if this did come available here, I doubt it would be worth Dice's trouble in terms of popularity.

Many newcomers find MP to be a pretty harsh experience. They would likely enjoy the opportunity to play together with friends without getting numbers like 0/10 thrown in the face after each round.

I got this from the source site:

The PC is getting an infantry only gametype option for all maps (conquest/rush/Squad deathmatch/Squad Rush) in the next patch.

The PC version of this is currently being investigated. The way the PC servers work is different, with no EA servers currently up, they would have to rely upon individuals paying for 4 slot servers so people could play this. So, as has been said on the forums, DICE are looking into restarting the EA public servers for this game mode. Due to the interest generated from the PC fan base for this gametype, i'd imagine we'll have it soon, and probably for free too.
