Bad Company 2 Sells Over 5 Million Copies

    From shacknews.com:

EA DICE's first-person shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has sold five million copies since it hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March 2010, Electronic Arts said today.

Amazingly, it seems that at least four million were sold during the game's first month at retail, as Electronic Arts noted that Bad Company 2 was among five games that sold over four million copies within its past fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2010.

The other games that sold more than four million copies between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010 were FIFA 10, Madden NFL 10, The Sims 3 and Need for Speed Shift. In particular, FIFA 10 has sold over ten million copies since it launched in October 2009.

In addition, the company passed along a bevy of other tidbits on its sales:

■EA is ranked #1 publisher on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 2. EA is the #1 third party publisher on the Wii and PSP platforms.
■EA leads the industry in quality with 20 titles earning a Metacritic rating of 80 or above.
■EA is ranked #1 publisher with 19 percent segment share, up 1.7 points from the prior year, with four of the top 20 games in North America and four of the top 20 games in Europe.
■[Q4 FY10] sales were driven by Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2, Dante's Inferno and digital businesses.
■Battlefield 1943 sold over 1.5 million units to date and is the best-selling download-only game on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade.
■EA has sold over eight million units worldwide of Hasbro branded family and kids video games to date.
■The Sims franchise has sold over 125 million units worldwide to date.

With talks of people leaving the game in the forums, do you think Bad Company 2 is still going strong? Are people holding out for all the fixes or is the game going really strong?

The ones leaving are really just those whining on the forums, the rest are still happily playing the game.

All kinds of issues even now, but on first release it was very unstable. It still is for many. The last patch altered a lot of weapons that most felt was unneeded, which is why the next patch is putting most those changes back. Everything had issues when it came to the EA servers, master browser, friends lists, points recording, servers crashing, lag, and so on.

And for the normally neutral and reasonable Crunch to point these out, you know it's a problem.

A lot of people also saw degraded performance in DX10 with the last patch, myself included. Sorry, I expect my system for perform at a reasonable framerate with minimal fps lag, and few network latency artifacts in a 15-40ms ping environment. I'm so SPOILED!

Yeah, I try to be objective and I understand it is not easy whatsoever to make any type of game, especially the detail of BC2, but the bugs are really starting to get to me. I give DICE credit for being on top of it and making all these fixes, but IMHO, which means nothing, I dont think the game should have been released when it was. Maybe another month would have been fine, but then we would have heard about how unfair console people got the game and PC players made DICE what it is and DICE owes everyone something for free.

After this next patch, I think and hope the game will really be stable and well done and then hopefully they can focus on minor bugs, but something tells me they need to get moving on to other projects/DLC soon.

the problem with DICE is that they keep breaking things, and that will just lead to endless circle of fixing/breaking, just as they have done in previous games.
shielded MG worked fine in beta but they decided to break it in release (dx9)
knife was fine but they broke it in the last patch
friends list was broken too all of a sudden

i bet the new patch will break something that was fine.
