Re: BASH 136: Tears of Joy?

Guys, most of you are missing the point of this podcast. I mentioned they did not know a lot about Battlefield because they don't. HOWEVER, they are bringing up other questions about the game and what it really means to gamers that compete or mod.

One thing I always disliked about super hardcore CS:S folks is that they would NEVER try anything different. The blinders are on and CS:S is the only game that has any worth and everything else is just something for the "lower" gamers.

You all can be like that for Battlefield or you can look at your own forums and see some of the same questions that everyone keeps shouting down.

    Think about it.

          Crunch,

Yes you are correct. Jock and his guest Martin do not know a lot about BF.

However, Jag does. Been gaming with him for years on both Call of Duty and Battlefield Servers. We have also been running our own Battlefield & CoD servers for 6 years now. I myself have been in the business for about 25. Yes, I am an old fart. Some of Jags information did get lost in the shuffle of the cast and some may not of been extremely precise but he does know Battlefield.

Anyway, now that the pleasantries are over I would like to say you guys run a great site. Love to check it out each morning. I think there has been a large amount of mis-information spread by some in the CoD community. This I am sure we can all say is fact. I plan on purchasing the game along with running as many RANKED SERVERS as we can get on our dedicated box.

So far in my opinion of DICE is one of a very fair to good at PR. They have not back tracked on anything which they have stated. No, they never set in stone about public release of server files and mod tools. I beg anyone to prove this. GVD only said it may be possible and something they may look at.

Yes, I know the mapping and modding community is hurting. Believe me I am one of them. It is a sign of the times I am slowly getting use to. Mods in Battlefield never did a thing for me to be honest. Tried several of them. Great work but always went back to RANKED BF Servers. They were not a priority such as the ones in CoD.

Whats happens to the Pro's is only a wait and see issue right now along with everything else. Maybe the constructive chat that takes place instead of rumors and crying will help get something accomplished. It does seem like they are a hell of a lot more supportive of the PC Community then IW. IW would prefer we all turn into console sheep. The results of this would be $$$ for them. Games are shelved every 3 months for another.

Hope the rumors of BF3 being PC only holds true...

          Keep up the great work.

See, this is exactly the kind of situation where pre orderng the game to get into the beta is a good idea to get a feel for how the game will be. Yeah sure, it's a bit of a dick move to pre order the game just for the beta and then cancel once the beta is over, but you can do that, and before the game is actually released. You have time all through the PC beta period to cancel as well as almost a whole week to cancel once the beta is concluded.

Pre ordering doesn't mean downloading. You can pre order games to be shipped on the release date or in store pickup.

Re: BASH 136: Tears of Joy?

                  Hi,

                  Just to clarify:

I am Martin/nKM. I do apologise if I appeared to come across as misinformed. However I can assure you I know plenty about Battlefield 2, I have easily played something like 3000 hours in BF2, and have been running servers and clans practically since I started playing. I actually said nothing myself about modsin BASH 136, and I know the information given was inaccurate, however we were not casting to talk about mods.

If you listen to the previous cast (BASH 133) you will hear a lot more about who I am, what I do and what rushTV (my community) contributes to the Battlefield scene.

I admit that my primary motivation is competitive gaming, however it doesn't mean that I agree with the dumbing down or standardisation of the *platform*, not the game. My main concern is that DICE seem to be giving us a game with the 'oldschool' PC considerations pushed aside in favour of an easily accessible game that is more akin to an effort from IW. The competitive considerations I've been talking about are closely linked to effective anti-cheat tools (1st person spectator, demo recording, etc) so please don't see my competitive aspirations for BFBC2 as an indication of a lack of awareness of the bigger picture.

And yes, we don't know what we're talking about, because there is nothing TO talk about. The main point I wanted to make was that the current climate of non-communication from Devs is making it impossible to really form any accurate opinion.

                  Thanks,

On top of that, having no in game console. Will not make competitions any easier, since there will be no easy way of checking PB_GUID's.
