Following on from today's rumor that Infinity Ward is working on a secret project and can't commit to Modern Warfare 3, some more gossip has found its way into our ears that might shed a little more light on the situation. According to our industry sources, Infinity Ward's new game will be an MMO.

We've gotten word that IW is hiring people from Sony Online Entertainment, one of which may be the lead designer of EverQuest II, and that a member of Blizzard employees may also be involved to help Infinity Ward get this new title off the ground. Our Intel seems to indicate that Call of Duty will continue as an annual franchise while IW runs this MMO alongside it.

It's not yet known if this MMO is based in the Call of Duty universe, although word of a CoD MMO has been floating around for a very long time. In any case, this is nothing but speculation at the moment, thought it's very interesting speculation indeed.

Bringing other people? Third developer coming in to do Modern Warfare 3? Speculation of an FPS MMO has been coming from the dark cells of Activision for some time. Could this all be true?

Massively Multiplayer Online [Game]
Usually when somebody says MMO they're referring to an MMORPG specifially though (e.g. WoW).

And if Blizzard is seriously wasting their time helping IW with this, :cry:. Please finish D3.

If they did do a proper MMO i.e battles with hundreds involved, it may be good, but if its a 'persistent world' type mmo where you only have a 6v6 but there is a safe zone where everybody is it will suck

Here's the funny thing about this, and why I kinda hope it's true: The PC is the primary platform for MMOs. They've openly mocked PC gamers, and gave us a broken multiplayer system that few people are truly happy with. The best thing I've seen someone honestly say about IWNet is, "It's not all that bad." Based on their most recent game, they have no idea what PC gamers want. They are completely out of touch.

I hope they do try this and get put right on their asses.
