    Bad Company Was Too Hard

Found this article on computersandvideogames.com about the first Bad Company being too tough:
The studio behind Battlefield: Bad Company has admitted that it made it "too hard" to kill people in the game - and revealed that it has toned down the difficulty in the second installment.

The shooter was released by EA back in 2008 to a warm critical reception.

But developer DICE said this week that it didn't think the 'pacing' of the game was right.

Producer Gordon Van Dyke told PC Zone that the problem had been rectified for the second title in the series - due out on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in March.

"I think we made it too hard to kill people [in the first game]," he commented. <!--more-->

"In a shooter game people want to kill people. So we've upped damage and the pacing is a lot better, it's tuned more.

"I think Battlefield as a whole, we've been doing it so long we're like a chef who knows the exact amount of spice to put in if they want it a little bit spicier, or how to make it a little more savoury or a little more sweet."

For those that played the first one, did it seem that hard to kill someone? Will this change get it right or will it go too far and become too easy? Could they be making it easier for the PC players and lack of controller support?

The way I see it, if they change things they change it for everyone in the game. If it is easier to kill, then it is easier to be killed. If you can't prone to hide, nobody can prone to hide from you.
As far as how easy it was to kill someone in BC1, I don't know cos I don't own a console. Obviously it is more difficult to get bullets in the direction of your enemy with a console controller than a keyboard & mouse, so maybe that needs tweaked for BC2, but the PC has never had a BC game before so it's gonna be a 'suck it and see' scenario.

I didn't play the first one but I've seen video and it looks very similar to bf2 in that it takes way too long to kill people. It ruins the game. The bc2 beta videos i have seen of some of the more skilled players looks great.A burst or 2 and they are dead. That's the way it should be,especially for pc.It makes the game more challenging, not easier. The game is easy when it takes 2 clips to kill someone and you can just run away after being shot 20 times.I don't think the word "easy"is the right word.It takes more skill and tactics to stay alive when bullets do real damage.

Re: Bad Company Was Too Hard

As someone who logged more hours in BC1 than in BF2, I must say that it wasn't too hard to kill people in the game. Just like most other shooters, it's a fine balance.
Most assault rifles would kill 2 people per clip, if all of the rounds hit the chest. Biggest thing, as in all shooters is going for headshots. One shot in the head = one kill.

Sub's up close were deadly by tho's that knew how to shoot straight, and could kill you before you knew that your being shot at, and sometimes before you could react even if they where infront of you.

Snipers one shot one kill from 50 cal, Semi auto snipers 2 -3 rounds anywhere on body, popped off within a 1.5 sec

IMO from the BC2 videos, kills happen to fast. I know alot of people that never even played PC battlefield, that swear BC1 is the best shooter ever and still play to this day.
Others Like me from PC, that still play.

There was very little wrong with it, If it takes you 3 secs to get a kill, it takes the other side that long too.
The new game looks like they die from getting shot anywhere as fast as headshot's. I guess the HS is no longer the "in" thing.

We'll have to play to see... but bottom line is. Anyone that complained about this sort of thing in BC1 , was a Noob and died before they could get a kill. Hence it took to long to kill, because they where dead before they could kill what they shot at. BC2 isn't that far from what BC1 is, don't let them fool you,
To us vets its just custom weapons, new maps and more detailed destruction thats unlikely to change the game play that much.

TBH, i'm more afraid that DICE ruined the gameplay because to many complains from Noob's
But again, They are DICE, They are why I bought a 360 and why I have upgraded PC's times over.
I'm sure BC2 will be fun, better or worse. You have to learn to play around the parameters and shut your mouth!

Give it a hardcore mode and I'll buy! It should only take about 2-3 well-placed rounds to down a person.

I've played the beta and the balance is just right. I never felt like I died too fast or I killed someone too fast.

I was very good at BC1... and even I thought the damage was ridiculous.

The assault rifles had a ludicrous amount of bullets per magazine, and that was only because it took a ludicrous amount of bullets to down someone. You can't have a game where it takes 7-8 bullets in the chest to kill (and it was really 3-4 in the head "area" also) because it just muddies everything up instead of making the game harder, especially in a slower paced game like BC. 7-8 shots in a game like Halo makes sense... 7-8 shots in BC where movement is much more restricted is just meh.

Honestly from the videos I've seen of BC2 the damage looks much better balanced and I'm really looking forward to playing it on PC.

Meh, You guys just couldn't adapt to anything new... The game isnt supposed to be realistic. Fast paced run a gun is not what makes Bf so great..

Nothing wrong with BC1, BC2 will probably be better, thats what DICE does, Reinvents MP to epic scales every time they make a new game.

BC1 is just about history like all the rest of them, so wtfc

Haha my man, I "adapted" ... I definitely wasn't bad at the game, it just muddied up everything and lowering the damage just a bit will make the game much more fluent to play. When I say that I mean you don't have to constantly spray away at one target for 3-4 seconds.

Re: Bad Company Was Too Hard

yeah well i never did spray that long to kill. I used Tanks, Helo's, Sniper rifles, mortar rounds, Melee, nades and head shots. I never aim at anything but the head, if I miss, then I might die, if I hit, I win.. My K/D averages 1.9 over the 2 year life of the game. Even when I was a noob to the controller.
My best round ground pounding with veh = 53 / 2
My best round without veh 80% snipe is 32 / 0
My best round in a helo is 58/0

Trust me, it doesn't take me that long to kill people, same as the many 2's I've met in game.
The guys shooting me in the chest when their head explodes, I'm sure think it takes to long to kill people.

What made the game mud soaked was the lack of over watch and teamwork, 2 Guns pointed at someone works alot better than 1...
Thats why towards the end all I did was snipe. It's was the only way to play without caring what team won.
They seemed to have worked on that part so we'll see if 2 is better, but the kill speed or the movement speed is not going to be the deciding factor for me. Thats only going to decide how many people stick with the game because it feels familiar.

Meh, CS is still gameplay god I guess.. COD proves that.. Who can twitch faster!

Its not to hard to kill people.

However, in BF2/2142, a simple burst or two from your gun will take out mostly anybody.

In BC1, sometimes it'll take half or more of a clip depending on the gun, so you'll often reload after a kill. Which is why they took out the clip reloading syste, and just gave you a bullet total.

Amusing, considering after the BC1 beta they had to up all the dmg because it took alot more shots to kill.
