  • Extreme Realism Update

After what seems like a long time out, the Extreme Realism guys are back with their latest update, NAC vehicles. Here is what they had to say:
Hello again community! We have returned to show you some deliciously high resolution renders of the new vehicles developed by our team that will be heading the North American Coalition war effort.
    Before we get to the renders let’s get to some housekeeping changes;

The ER Forum itself, along with some goodies we don't publish on our Moddb can now be found here.

    North American Coalition: Vehicles

Onto the update itself, we have 3 vehicles to show you today! All with detailed interiors you'll see in the next update which will also be ingame screenshots, as opposed to glorified renders. Firstly, we have the NAC Fast Attack Vehicle which was previously shown but has been textured since then.

Second is the APC known as the AIFV-7 Solomon, a change from the vanilla Roamanov and Groundhog. My personal favorite from this update really.

        Re: Extreme Realism Update

Ooh, a mod I have never heard of! Good to see more activity in the BF modding scene. I get the idea it's 2142 (almost certain, lol) but then I don't get the title Extreme Realism. Science Fiction + Extreme Realism doesn't seem to fit for me, anyway going to check out your ModDB page!

Yeah... I'm a 'Project Reality' player and I think that title is wrong (it is a relatively-realistic mod but it's not reality, nor is that it's main focus).

So a sci-fi mod called 'Extreme Realism' seems ridiculous to me.

I can't really think of good names myself, I just think 'Realism' / 'Reality' is kind of pretentious and misleading.

I have to explain to people every time I mention 'Project Reality' that it's not actually meant to be 100% realistic and that it's actually more about coordinated team-play & tactics. If I don't they'll either pass it off as too realistic (boring/frustrating) or somewhat fraudulent (claiming it's reality but obviously can't be).

Furthermore it influences complaints about various aspects of the mod being unrealistic, as well as silly suggestions on how it could be more realistic.

Just referring to it as simply 'PR' suffices, but it'd be nice if it was renamed (unlikely at this stage I guess).

It's 2142, the future. Can't say what's realistic in the future

Nice work guys, thou your APC and jeep seem kinda old fashioned, I would have tried to beef them up a little with some futuristic kit, gizmos etc

Maybe you can do something with an US nickname or whatever, like the Japs called the US a Giant, so with the icy theme, Frozen Giant, because I believe your mod is about adding the US into BF2142?

While we have improvements which make it seem a little more realistic rather then a giant mess of of **** flingers, we realize this is a game. But I fail to see how you can define what reality is and what isn't in terms of combat. I'd trust it to the folks at Reality Mod whom I very much like mainly because it's a focus on our Teams Ventrilo, Seeing as how they've even been on base as I recall in some millitary base for reference pictures, it is also something we play. But even with that in mind we cannot act like Project Reality because 1. We aren't. 2. We don't have the manpower. As talented as our team may be we simply cannot do what they're doing. All the changes they have come from a caste of extremely talented staffers (And if you're reading this PR Mod Devs just know I love the Insurgency mode <3) such as the camera movements on every weapon and the reanimation of every piece of gear. These are things we can't do as much as we would want to.

But I can guarantee we do remember this IS a game! we intend to keep it as such but with some improvements to how 2142 runs all together. And with ideas such as yours leading to "I don't see how you can define realism in the future" We never will progress. By this I mean modding as a whole. Even game developers at that. If you don't know what I mean play a bunch of old RPGs and see how samey they get and try Biowares recents, it may not be a super change but atleast you aren't getting a super happy ending because everyone thinks it should be like everything else.

But I do value your opinion this is just my take on it, I mean no offense in any way and if you took any you have my sincerest apologies. Also Alex, I noticed you made reference to our "slumber". Why is that? Keeping tabs on us, I hope.

                              Re: Extreme Realism Update

                              @ Alex98uk

I don't know but I think it might be possible to have a realistic sci-fi game. Such as weapons that would carry ammunition that is probable for the current time period and using the theoretical physics that would apply to how the ammunition should react, given the design of the barrel, ammunition and its properties, environment and its elements(gravity, wind, or if you are on an alien planet; particle ratios and density in the air which would govern how fast the ammunition can travel depending on the material of the bullet). Or things like tactical game play.

Titanium has a very precise reaction to other elements, if you keep that precision intact in a game, it doesn't matter if the game is a sci-fi FPS, the game then would be realistic in how it depicts Titanium's reaction to other elements; such as high heat resistance, strength and 45% less weight than steel.

Or Radon gas. Radon gas can be very volatile when mixed with other elements. Even if all your doing is creating rockets and saying that the rockets have Radon gas in them and creating particle effects that mimic the right reaction; your depiction of the gas's behavior in game would still be considered realistic, hence the realistic sci-fi.

So although you can never have a 100% real sci-fi game, I believe you could still have a "realistic sci-fi" game.
