Player Resets On Leaked Gameplay Coming

All the information coming out due to leaks will result in stat resets according to this article from computerandvideogaming.com:
Infinity Ward says it's planning to perform a full wipe of Modern Warfare 2's online leaderboards and stats before release, to ensure that players who've obtained leaked copies of the game don't have an "unfair advantage".

Speaking via Twitter, community man Robert Bowling said: "It definitely looks like a full leaderboard / level reset is in order just before the release date to ensure no unfair advantages."

In case you missed the last week's leak festivities, Modern Warfare's Achievements/Trophies, killstreaks, third-person mode and even videos all trickled onto the net.<!--more-->

Bowling said: "Can't confirm nor deny any leaks for #MW2. Official stance is to just wait and discover the awesome yourself on November 10th."

You all think this is unfair or an unfair advantage?

It's a little late to take back the unfair advantage, the players with leaked and pirated copies will have more playing experience then those that received the game when it is officially released in stores. This also gives them time to learn the maps, create multiple strategies for total domination before the rest of the players.

Shouldn't they be giving out permanent bans instead of the "slap on the wrist" stat reset?

Unless of course its not possible to do on a 360.

On a PC you can just ban the cd-key...

I read on one forum where people were buying the game in Europe in a grocery store type place. The grocery store put it on the shelves early and so people bought it legitimately. I don't think they can distinguish between those that bought it "fair and square" and those that did something illegal or unethical.

I wouldn't want the people that bought it legally to be penalized because of that.

What Xbox/PS3 should have done was lock down MW2 to only the devs keycodes or profile names. That would have stopped all the multiplayer stuff, I think.

Heh, I'd be happy if all I got for playing the leaked game was a stats reset. Is a stat wipe when the legit game comes out that controversial?

Is there anyway we can look at an Xbox leaderboard for MW2? I don't own a current gen console.

If they wanna do something right, ban their LIVE accounts. All this is, is free publicity and they are going to have more then a little advantage when the game comes out. They are going to know the maps inside and out.

To be honest im surprised that IW didnt forsee something like this happening and should have prevented their precious IW net to be online before the release date, that way atleast people would be limited to SP and Offline MP.

As the game run through a central server, that really might be deliberately release to stress test the server.
