GameStop Making Trade In Option For Modern Warfare 2

This is an intersting article from GameDailey:
GameStop would like to rent you a copy of Modern Warfare 2, it seems, as the company has revealed a trade-in plan for the standard and Hardened editions of the game. If you pre-order the game through GameStop's site, you''ll be eligible to get $40 back should you trade it in before December 13. GameStop will email pre-orderers a coupon on November 15 to that effect, which will only work for trade-ins on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. <!--more-->

Considering this "deal" also applies to the Hardened edition, we have to wonder how the company will handle the included Call of Duty Classic. We've contacted GameStop for some additional info on that and will relay what we hear back.

To me that seems like a rather strange twist. My questions are why only console versions? If this game is truly that anticipated, is it going to get stale this fast? Is this another sign of how short lived a game is for a console system? If this was for PC, would that increase people trying the game out as a live demo? Is it not possible on PC due to the Steam integration?

With full Steam integration, doing this for PC would make the returned copies useless. Once a piece of software is registered on steam, it's respective key code is locked to that account only.

Since the game is so integrated into steam, they should do a free weekend or something. Then we could see for ourself if everything is as bad as it sounds.

Might be a way to offer an olive branch to people that get very bent out of shape over the content in the game, skip-able or no.

Maybe they're expecting a wave of unhappy customers demanding their money back?

Multiplayer only would be much smaller, though. I think Crysis Wars was ~6GB.

Even though thats 4gb less, some consider 4gb to be a game and at 12gbs i do wonder.....why?

That is a great idea. Steam COULD do a free weekend, even a large one, and we could try the game out ourselves.

I also figured with the Steam integration that keycodes would be a thing of the past. I know there are keycodes on steam, but they seem to be able to control them with the free weekends they do and all that.

I think that would be a little unfair to those who actually buy the game. (me )

Dont you think its unfair how many people have dropped the game that you wont be able to play with?

Dont you think its unfair that if you bought the PC version its yours, whether you like it or not?

Dont you think its unfair that consoles get this rented demo?

My point, fairness aside, is that IW touted how IWnet was awesome and has not showed us anything proving it. No gameplay footage, no screenshots of how it works or what it looks like, nothing but a brief description that brings up more questions than answers.

A steam weekend would show IWnet and let PC people be proven wrong, IF thats the case. They may even get some sales from it, even though PC is only 9% of MW2 sales now.
