Who in their right mind would buy a used copy of a PC game?

who in their right mind would not prefer saving money? If I'm not buying a game on release day i ALWAYS opt to save $30 and get a used copy.......especially if its a few months after release day.

This is just another way for activison to insert themselves and control the community and content......no more mod community....no more clan community........no more dedicated server rentals.........no more resale community..........its a console port in the truest sense of the word but atleast the console players who wait a month to buy it will have the option to save money and buy a used copy.

Even if you buy a hard copy of the game it will still be tied to your steam account?

It would be just as fair to everyone, if everyone had the same options and limitations, either way.

Grenade cooking is balanced in its own right. While you cook a grenade, you're essentially helpless.
The "graphical junk" is all up to config options that all players have access to.
"Removing weapons?" Why is that even needed if anyone can choose any weapon?
"Fixing weapon sway," and "fixing the sniper rifles?" If everyone has the same sway and rifles, what really needs fixing?

To me it always seemed like telling basketball players which shoes they were allowed to wear: pointless.
Well with that mindset, technically playing hardcore and having all machine guns spamming though walls is fair for everyone, since you both have to do it. It's not FUN though. Which is why they reduced wall banging and removed the entire machine gun class.

Fixing weapon sway made it more skill based to fire your weapons. If you are firing, and someone else is firing at you, chances are whoever kills who first will be based on luck. In fact, someone made a video with the sway on MAX to illustrate this.

And by graphical junk, by having the mod actually remove it for you, you negate the need for fancy configs that give others an advantage. Furthermore, some of stuff removed by promod could not be removed with a fancy config.

For an average player, sure, these changes seem to be too much. But in reality, they level the playing field and make it a lot more skill based. Competitive players see and exploit a lot more than the average player (fast reloading, reducing your hitbox by sprinting facing the ground, leaning left to ensure a more accurate noscope, wall strafing to boost your speed). If one of these exploits seem to be overpowered and must be modded out, how would we do that? Or will it have to be on the "honor system"?

Same applies to counter strike and counter strike source. Technically, there are more people pubbing the game then actually competing in leagues. But the amount of competition 'weight' it carries in LANs is unsurpassed. Sponsors, prizes, money all revolve around Counter Strike. And with the advent of COD4, it seemed like CS had a pretty big competitor as COD4 was being played in all major competitive LANS. Now, I don't think that will hold true for MW2.

Yes, from everything i read that would seem to be the case. Hard copy or not you will have to enter your serial number into your personal steam account before you can play.

Publishers hate retailers, doing second hand games. The publishers see nothing of the resale and the retailers pocket the usually pretty big profit from it.

Why should they care? As far as they are concerned it just damages their sales.
