    Bashandslash Update

Another webcast was made at bashandslash with some time for thinking as well as some interesting information:
I spent most of the weekend learning the seven stages of Grief . I can let you all know, I made it through without learning how to tie a Gallows Knot. Small victory.

From what I can see, the community has spent most of Sunday on the "Anger" step I see. Perfectly understandable. However, as everyone slowly migrates towards "Acceptance" we are starting to see good ideas germinating. <!--more-->

The PC community has always solved problems and from the sounds of it, we have a biggie in front of us.

For that reason, some of jumped into Skype and IRC yet again tonight and discussed the aftermath of the now infamous BASH 123 cast on Saturday.

Thanks to Josh from planetmedalofhonor.com, John from efragtv.com, PST*Joker from mycallofduty.com, Garetjax at codtv.com and RelixX...and the twelve hundred of you that linked in.

We have recorded it and posted it to UStream. It's not a typical "BASH" cast, so there will not be any iTunes version.

There were some interesting items discussed.

Josh visited IW's Steam site tonight and found a new game IP port, in a range that looks very similar to a dedi-server: 64.111.160.25:28965. Could IW be trying a dedicated server? There was someone in there until the wee hours...

Spoke to @LWilson on Twitter. It appears Fourzerotwo may have commented on the post-cast community reaction: Link
CSL|Caleb, who put in a two-day stint in our vent and came up with savecod.com, made this call to IW today, but was not able to get to Rob. He needs some sleep after that lengthy flight and by the looks of it Caleb, so do you! Though you have our vent record now for usage.

There is a lot of speculation and rumors in these postings. Be sure to listen to the webcast HERE. Do you think IW is working on dedicated servers? Are we past anger and ready to see what solutions and options we have? Do you think the twitter comments mentioned are legit?

I'm not going to read too much into this, pretty weak evidence to try and make a conclusion upon.

402's twitter response is something though I guess.

And no one should read too much, but there are some good points. Be sure to check out the webcast too. Its a little long, but good.

Right around the 38 minute mark, the boys start talking about the IP address, and the Dedicated server code possibly being blocked.... a patch would make this accessible for sure. If they would communicate and say

"Looks like we may have overlooked the dedi-server issue, and it will be in the patch XX due before the end of the year...."

Definately would make us happy, and drive the sales back up

I have to say, it would be cool if this was the FIRST game with a choice between matchmaking and dedicated servers (I don't know how I would feel about splitting the community like that). Nothing like taking you act one the road. I guess there is no way to use matchmaking to fill not full servers since its a different system, but we can dream.

                  Its a glimmer of hope.
But I don't expect a miracle at all.

"We're just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners," says West.

                      more like:

"We just felt that our game should be less unique, and fun. In order to do that, we slapped modders and 'tuners' right in the face", says West.

                      I love this:
He points toward the mounting feedback IW has received from PC fans of Modern Warfare who couldn't find a decent server to play on between all of the cheaters, the insular communities, and huge skill level disparities that the original game's community fractured into. "We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game," he laughs.
You know why I'm laughing? Because CS and CSS are, by far, the most competitive and modded online FPS games. They're also, by far, the most popular FPS games on the market right now. So I don't understand what this guy is trying to say.

Not the mention the fact that in CoD4 there's way more regular pub servers than locked clan servers and modded servers. I pretty much only play on pub servers in CoD4 and I rarely come across a hacker.

I could almost guarentee that this guy has never even played CoD4.

If they did add dedicated servers, they wouldn't be making the first game to have both. Look at UT3. You can always do a quick match and let the game pick a server with players and a good ping. Or you can go to the server browser and go exactly where you want to. It doesn't split the community at all that way. Some people navigate to the server the normal way, and casual players can end up in the same server to buff up the numbers. Perfect.

After seeing their response, screw IW right in their asses.

BF2 has an option like that, too. It's called the "Play now" button

It didn't work worth *** in BF2, though. I used it last night in UT3 and it worked beautifully. It put me in a populated server with a 40 ping in UT3. In BF2 it always took about 3 minutes just to find a server and then it would stick me in Euro servers with 200+ pings.
