Modern Warfare 2 on PC Snubs Mod Community?

    as taken from Gamespy

Infinity Ward's PC version of the new shooter will lack dedicated servers and mod tools.
    <!-- END: editor info -->
<SCRIPT> &nbsp;document.write('<ul class="" style="margin:0px; padding: 0 0 6px 0; height:16px; display: block;background:url(http://media.gamespy.com/spy/imgs/bt...lmedia-bar.gif) no-repeat -45px 0px;position:relative;">'); &nbsp;digg_url = articleURL; &nbsp;digg_skin = 'compact'; </SCRIPT>All hell is breaking loose in certain PC shooter communities. The anger is stemming from a recent webcast released be BASHandSlash. EvilAvatar posted news about the emerging situation over the weekend which sees Infinity Ward reveal the first information about IWnet -- its new matchmaking service.

So why are PC gamers apparently getting so pissed off? According to the article, IW wants Modern Warfare 2 on the PC to replicate the console experience. This means no dedicated server clients will be made available, and modders wont be able to work their magic creating custom-made modes and maps.
Robert Bowling has confirmed that the PC version of Call of Duty is essentially ruined as far as multiplayer and customization goes. Let's get a quick rundown here of what Bowling said on the webcast.
    • IW has control of the game
    • IWnet servers will host multiplayer
    • DLC will be a charged item for PC
    • No dedicated servers – WTF?
    • Matchmaking system used to play with similarly ranked players
    • VAC instead of PB
    • Semi-capable password servers
    • Semi-capable ad-hoc servers
    • Competitive play is dead – good job IW, idiots.
    • MW2 mods would not be possible
    • Full integration into Steam

While we're waiting on some form of official statement which essentially has to happen in the very near future, it would seem as though PC Call of Duty fans might not take to this news very well.

Fav part of return home = putting all leftover currency into Coraline's piggy bank. She'll have to research each country before spending it.
I would guess the least Fav part is returning home to a raging firestorm of angry PC gamers.

let's see how long it takes IW to actually respond, I bet we don't hear from them for at least another 22 days.

That has to be the most reasonable argument I've heard in this whole mess. VAC replacing PunkBuster should be news that should make a lot of people happy. As for 'console experience', I don't mind matchmaking, I know a lot of people who enjoy matchmaking, but then to give us the kiddy handcuffs and say the 'console experience'; PC have always and will always have the larger communities then consoles, try going online in a 2 year old game on a console and try to find folks to play with and then go onto a PC game.

Have to disagree with you there... there are sooo many more people playing consoles these days.

If all of this proves to be true I will not be getting the game, no matter how good the reviews are. This is beyond neglect. It is essentially spitting in our face as a community. I for one hope IW proves this wrong.

Besides Halo, name some console games that have followings that keep online multiplayer communities alive for more then 4 years. And now I give you Battlefield games, Call of Duty games, Half-Life games, Counter-Strike games and heck, look at Multi Theft Auto; all communities off of the top of my head, majority of which have some kind of a home here and are kept alive well past their expiration date because of the online gaming and modding communities.

EDIT: Wait, that means you actually agree with some of my other points...scary.

Gamespy used our bullet points in our article! (I was excited about that) I was making those points live while listening.

Not being console is the point. There is so much more to the PC side of gaming. I think JoMamaz mentioned about how he hoped that consoles would become more like PC, because of the options, instead PC is being watered down to console.

Its just a new generation. Many gamers have never played on PC and know nothing about it or the options. They dont even know what dedicated servers do for us.

If they are going to pull this kind of crap then make the games cross platform.

                  Fitting comment for this thread.

But they're only playing Halo or new games. They tend to drop a game as soon as the next big thing comes along. From what I've seen, they don't invest money or themselves into keeping a game alive, so games are disposable. They just sell them at GameStop and buy another one.

pc gaming is starting to follow a similar pattern though. I know Ranger made a comment about trying to play a game 2 years old on console, same goes with most pc games. Gaming is not what it was 5 - 10 years ago, which most of the games that have had the staying power are in theory 5 - 10 years old now i.e. Battlefield series, Call of Duty, Half-life and its mods.....

Has anyone ever tried to play Halo 2 PC? It failed because it was injected with the console experience... Sure little few still play it but it sucked because it didn't allow clans to engage like it did in Halo PC.

If everyone took the time and look how BF2 is, a 5 or 6 year old game, still has thousands of players playing daily, CS still has thousands playing. Dedicated servers keep games alive for people who come on and can just join a random game and be able to have fun.

Bowling never said explicitly that PC DLC will be paid for. Gamespy just took Crunch's list as given - which were actually "...points brought up by the hosts of the webcast..." after 402 left.

The article is a bit misleading.
