MW2: IW Personnel Playing Through Steam?

Bashandslash has found some interesting information on the PC side:

We have been talking about MW2's multiplayer quite a bit recently, so this should lead to interesting speculation... <!--more-->

What we are seeing is a Steam Group of IW (and possible QA) MW2 players. Clearly the group has played both MW2 SP and MP on PC.

What does all this mean?

This could be all innocuous. Perhaps they're just making MW2 available for digital download...or IW might be using making Steam mandatory for MP.

If so, will Steam be our new in-game browser? Steam can provide a really great matchmaking interface - though I personally am not a fan of the service.

Note that even if we will be using Steam, it does not rule out the use of dedicated servers. Or does it?

Nothing is clear or obvious at the moment. What is obvious is that as Jason West has said in the past, IW is looking at a Steam matchmaking service...is this the first evidence of that?

What does it all mean? Is everything looking good for PC after all? Are there dedicated servers? Will Batman make it in time to save Robin?

You guys gotta remember that Jason west also confirmed that they were working on Dedicated server files and Linux support and 402 also confirmed that they weren't changing how PC Mp operates.

I think Steam is just being used as a testbed that's already in place because its blatantly obvious they are strapped for time and didn't have time to do everything in house.

You can add non-steam games to Steam and use it as an hours tracking software...

I thought it only added to Steam Rating for non-steam games? Last time I looked it don't show to the right like in that SS.

i think this steam match making rumor is bs, only left 4 dead uses it (as far as i know) and it sucks. like garandx said, they stated that multiplayer will be just like cod4. the use server browsers. if you think about it, if they are really behind on the pc version of this game and it is infact getting delayed, do you really think they have time to **** up the pc version by having the game without dedicated servers and using some other function that they have to make? that does not seem right.

i thought that this game is using a modded cod4 engine, meaning that they can easily make dedicated server files and a server browser interface being that they did it before.

CoD4 on steam had its problems at first but its actually really easy to use now.
